McApline Park hosts 8th annual meet on Sept. 28 for men’s 8K, women’s 6K

Hosted by the Charlotte 49ers, the Charlotte Invitational features 34 women’s teams and 29 men’s. The field displays numerous Division I, II, and III teams that are ranked regionally in their respected divisions and regions. Because of the large number of teams competing, the meet will be split into four races, including men’s and women’s “gold” races, as well as men’s and women’s non-scoring “green” races. The meet kicks off at 8:45 a.m. with the women’s 6K “gold” race, with the men’s 8K “gold” event following at 9:20 a.m.

The 2013 Charlotte Invitational will be the fifth time at McAlpine Park.  The Foot Locker South Regional was the first meet hosted at McAlpine Park, which dates back to Nov. 15, 1980. McAlpine is home to the Foot Locker South Regional, NCAA Division II Southeast Regional, NCSAA 3A Midwest and NCHSAA 4A West Regionals as well as the Charlotte Invitational this fall.

The Jaguar men took the team title at the Jaguar Invitational, GRU Augusta’s home meet, on Sept. 20 with Dustin Ross and Jaiden Brandt pacing the race for a first and second place finish. The Jaguar men finished six runners in the top 10, while the women's team put three in the leading ten to take third. Jags freshman Jordan Humphrey won the women’s 6K and teammate Jessica Carpenter notched second. After the Charlotte Invitational, the Jags return to McApline Park on Oct. 11 for The Remembrance Run and again on Nov. 9 for the NCAA Southeast Regionals.
