Southeast Regional Elementary and Middle School 5K Road Race Championships

Gainesville, FL- The Five Points of Life Foundation is proud to announce the 1st Annual Southeastern Regional Elementary and Middle School 5K Road Race Championships which will be held on February 16, 2019 at Celebration Pointe in Gainesville, FL.

After watching the growth of elementary and middle school competition in cross country and track and field throughout the state of Florida and throughout the Southeastern United States in the last few years, I thought it was time to give K-8 kids an opportunity to compete in a championship style road race, said Five Points of Life Foundation Director, Ricky Quintana. Its so great to see so many kids competing and this will give them a chance to have fun in a competitive race.
The race is open to students in K-8 grades of any ability from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. All finishers will receive a finishers medal and there will be individual and team competition. Also adding to the event, regional, state and age group awards will be given to the top individual performers and those wishing to compete as a team, whether it be club or school, may also compete.

In championship races, the top overall winners are awarded, but there are some younger runners who are deserving of some recognition as they aspire to be the best they can be. This race awards a lot of individuals at different levels giving the recognition they deserve, said Quintana. Also, I recently attended the FLYRA Elementary and Middle School Championships and saw how many teams competed. I felt it only natural to have team competition.

The race will be two loops around the Celebration Pointe venue promising to be a fast and spectator friendly course. The course will be USATF certified for record purposes.

I watched Ani Veltcheva just come up short in her attempts at the 5K World Record at the Five Points of Life 5K in past years, said Quintana. This race has no hills and runners will be able to really go after their best times.

Registration is now open and will be until race day.
