Its tough on webmasters when every year people exclaim a course is 150 meters or more short of the listed course distance of 5K in the Results. We are caught in a 'Catch 22' scenario (for you younger folks a conundrum of sorts) National Rankings are at stake mostly when super fast times are achieved.
