St. Pius and Tucker battled down to the wire in Region 6-AAAA as the 4x400m once again provided all the drama one could ask for as St. Pius was able to preserve a slim l point lead going into the last event to take the title 129-125 over Tucker. Antonio McKay anchored his St. Pius team to a 3:20 win with a 47.0 anchor leg. Both Tucker and St. Pius had two teams in the finals and Tucker was able to take 2nd place with their number one team but had to watch as their number two team finished 1 place behind St. Pius' number two team as the Golden Lions took home the team trophy. Mckay also captured 1st place in the long jump (21'11.5"), 400m (47.90) and 200m (22.26). Rick Scheff, also of St. Pius, appears headed for a state showdown with Reginald Warren of Mays in the 800m as Scheff takes the win with a 1:53. Scheff also took top honors in the 1600, where he was able to hold off Taylor Hurst, of Lakeside who finished in 4:26.37 to Scheff's 4:25.13. Hurst also will compete in the 800m where he finished a close 2nd in 1:55.09 for an outanding double for both athletes.
Tucker advances their 4x100 team, winners in 43.19. A.J. Bennett of North Forsyth took top honors in the discus with his 147'2" effort, just ahead of Cameron Reed, of Tucker in 146'8". Ian Turnbull, of Marist, and DJ McMillan, of Alpharetta, locked up in a great 3200m race that saw Turnbull take the win a mere .26 seconds ahead of McMillan 9:33.59 to 9:33.85! Both of these young men should fare well at the state meet. Brandon Lampkin, of Tucker, advances to state with his 51'2" effort in the shot put and David Lee, also of Tucker, takes the win in the triple jump with his 44' effort. Good luck to all these athletes at state!
