The ladies from Stephenson High School acheived a narrow team victory over Southwest Dekalb at the Dekalb Co. Championships and it might just have been that little bit of motivation that propeled the Lady Jaguars to a national leading time in the 4x400, taking the win in 3:46, a mark that ranks #2 all time in the state of Georgia. That by no means was the only top level perfromance as the athletes from Dekalb put on an eye opening exhibition that saw several top 10 marks posted. Joanna Atkins, of Stephenson, posted a 24.37/55.03 double while Emily Reese also captured double gold with her 5:09/10:55 double. Stephenson also took home top honors with their 47.27 4x100 team to help lead them to a tight win over Southwest Dekalb. One surprise occured in the 800m as Ayesha Famble, of ML King, took home the win over Racquel Daly, of Southwest Dekalb. ML King is a relatively new school and yet they finsihed a surprising 3rd place, finishing ahead of Redan HS.
On the boys side, the story had to be Evander Wells, of Stone Mountain. Wells posted his 10.49/20.98 double which establishes him as one of the top sprint talents in the country. Redan took home top team honors thanks in part to an amazing 3:18 perfromance in the 4x400m relay.
