There will be some very closely contested Field Events Thursday and here are a few of the ones to get down on the Track and watch.

12pm

5A Vault- There are a bevy of 14-00 vaulters in this one led by Parkview's Jordan Funk (14-6), Justin Grose of Brookwood (14-1), James Wenk of Harrison (14-0), Matt Morris of Peachtree Ridge (14-0), Mason Sheats of Mill Creek (14-0)


4A Shot Put- This has most of the top putters all classes with very close prs. Jordan Chambers of Kell has the top mark at 58-0 followed by McLain Head of Whitewater (57-9), Courtland Garrett of Pope (55-8.5), Ray Drew of Thomas County (54-8.5) and Nathan Loe of Woodland-Bartow (54-4)


3A Discus- 2 throwers have an excellent chance to win the gold if they are "on" Thursday. Westover can pick up 18 huge points possibly led by  Dontrevious Ousley who has a pr of 170-9 and Derick Akins at 168-9


2pm

5A Discus- Four Throwers have surpassed the 150-00 mark this season led by Tyler Cierski of Mill Creek (163-4), Cedric Stadom of Lassiter (160-11.5), and Shaquille Bryant of Tift County (152-11.5)

5A Triple Jump- 4ALong Jump- These 2 events will be contested a few meters away from each other providing double the action. Top performers in the 5A TJ are all-Classes leader Kenneth Durden of Lowndes (50-0) followed by Levi Josephs of North Cobb (47-1.5). 4A LJ will be closely contested led by Jameel Abdul-Mateen of Alcovy (24-0), Corrigan Miller of Harris County (23-8).

 2:30pm

5A/4A High Jump Competition-  Contested right next to each other with both classes having a top mark of 6-8. the faves for 5A are Malcom Davis of Norcross who has cleared 6-8 at least twice, Elliott Abram of Parkview (6-7). In 4A Dennis Riley of Winder-Barrow has a pr of 6-8, followed by a group of jumpers at 6-6.

4A Discus- This may produce an all-time great performance as Thomas County's Ray Drew has USA MileSplit #2 mark at 201-2. There are also a group of throwers that have exceeded 160-0 including Dewayne Gurley of Bainbridge (162-5), Javon Bennett of Liberty County (162-0) and Courtland Garrett of Pope (161-8.5)

LJ/TJ Area- A trio of great contests will be going on simultaneously! Cameron Holt of Central Carrollton may have an advantage in the 3A LJ with a recent pr of 24-5.5. 8-AA Region Rivals willhave another chance to decide who's the best across county lines led by  Raheem Cowan of Hart County (47-1.25) and Elbert County's multi-talented Valdon Cooper (47-0).  4A TJ may be anyone's ballgame as 4 athletes have exceeded 46-0 this Spring including Jamario Calhoun of Cedar Shoals (46-11.5), Delonte Martistee of Bainbridge (46-10), Tralynn McCular of Lovejoy (46-7) and Kenneth Fisher of Tr-Cities (46-1).

3A Vault- Is it just the Timing or what? As the sun sets behind the tall trees casting its shadow on a grateful bunch of fans lining the track. But, does it not seem that this late afternoon PV competition from 3A always provides something special going back to the Jordan Scott days and beyond? Nikita Kirilov will be attempting to wipe away last year's new record achieved by Paul Malquist of Gainesville at 16-8. Kirilov has a pr of 17-2! Samuel Johnson of Eastside will also be aiming high as he has a pr of 15-2. 2 other vaulters have cleared 14-0 this season including Tyler Craig of Pickens County (14-6) and St.Pius' Nicholas Miller at 14-0.
