As we start to get into the swing of things, the competition is going to continually heat up wherever you look, and that's not just limited to the experienced returners. Freshmen and sophomores around the U.S. have already shown that they can hang with the best of them.
Take a look at the next four 'Future Stars'.
AMARI SCOTT
Mark Trail Flying Eagles (Ga.)
Class of 2027
In his 2025 debut, the Georgia-based sophomore took on both the 400m and 60mH at the Clemson High School Invitational, leaving the facility with a runner-up and first-place finish. In the 400m, Scott notched a PB of 50.30, the 10th-best time amongst the nation's sophomores. Scott took care of business in both rounds of the 60mH, running 8.23 in the prelims followed by an 8.09 in the final, the 28th-fastest time this season, and is a millisecond away from cracking the all-time top-30. Scott came into the season with bests of 51.18 and 8.68 in each event and has quickly surpassed both marks in his first meet.

OLIVIA HARRIS
Jackrabbit Track and Field (Ga.)
Class of 2027
After picking up several PBs towards the end of her freshman campaign, Harris got right back to work in her sophomore debut at the Clemson High School Invitational. For the first time since June, Harris took on the 400m and prevailed, clocking a new PB of 54.53, her first time faster than 55 seconds indoors. Harris led seven girls under 60 seconds and made some ground on the Georgia record books, moving up to No. 14 on the all-time indoor leaderboard. She's now the sixth-fastest sophomore in state history and the only sophomore in the country to have run sub-55 this season.

Denton-Guyer (Texas)
Class of 2028
After a freshman campaign that exceeded any expectations on the prodigy, the freshman wasted no time on the indoor oval, breaking the longstanding freshman class national record for the indoor 2-mile. At the 2025 Texas High School Indoor Championships at Texas A&M, Newberry finished runner-up by just over a second, just enough to dip under Mead Senior's (Wa.) Andrew Gardner's mark of 9:09.47 from the 2011 Brooks PR Invitational. Newberry broke the record by a mere .13 seconds, joining Gardner as the only other freshman to break 9:10 during their freshman year. It's also worth noting that Newberry is the sixth-fastest freshman in the event in history, including outdoor performances.

BETHANY PREUSSE
Hill Country Comets Track Club (Texas)
Class of 2027
A pair of lifetime bests and two-to-three finishes? Things were near-perfect for the 2024 AAU Junior Olympic discus champion at the Prentice Gudgen Invitational, as Preusse heaved the shot put 40-2, and notched a mark of 51-2 in the weight throw, both besting her previous indoor bests. Her third-place finish came after a closely contested battle with a pair of throwers from Arkansas and Oklahoma but was able to hold off a talented group of throwers behind her. Preusse's performance in the weight throw was nothing short of dominant as she won the competition by just under six feet. The sophomore ranks No. 8 and No. 1 out of sophomore girls nationwide.
