This week was kind of the calm before the storm. I think. It's hard to know exactly how things are going to go at sectionals this weekend since it's the first year we've had them. But I tend to think they'll be a little intense for several teams and just a final tune up for others before state. So next weekend is kind of a mixed bag.
But that meant it also left a mixed bag of races this past weekend as well. GIAA and GAPPS both had their state meets and that's where we saw most of the big performances over the weekend. But several teams opted for a last chance or tune up style race before sectionals. And of course there were several meets where the focus was all on the JV kids. It was a fun weekend of racing with decent weather. But now we're on to the GHSA post season competition, and that's where things will really start to get crazy. In track we often see some casualties at region and sectionals, but I don't think we will see much of that in XC this fall. Instead I'll be much more interested to see how certain kids respond next week after the racing from this week.
