It's that time of year again. Region Madness is underway! This meet brings with it a wide variety of results. I kind of like how many region meets there are. Sometimes it gets a little repetitive always doing the same type of meet with Wingfoot, Asics, Coach Wood, etc... It's nice to have something smaller this time of year where you can see everything that's going on the whole time. It gives some kids and teams a chance to win a race who aren't normally in the conversation. So while it can be a lot of keep track of, it has a different kind of fun to it. I suppose the old guard will be reminded of "back in the day" when they used to do more dual meets than invitationals. But for me, region just brings back all sorts of memories. From running a bad race and thinking I was the reason our team didn't qualify for state (only to be surprised that we snuck in anyway) to watching a team I coached overcome injuries in a loaded region and qualify for state by a few points on a heroic effort from my 5th runner who ran as our 2nd runner on the day. This sport brings with it all sorts of drama this time of year and it's always interesting to watch it unfold.
