The Varsity Boys Race at Bob Blastow last year was a thriller for such an early season meet
Track and Field season offers a fun blend of great weekday meets and weekend invitationals. But in cross country, at least early on in the season because of the weather, it's almost all about the weekend invitational. These meets can vary in size from 10-15 teams in the invitational to over 50 teams. They also vary greatly in competitiveness, but generally speaking the big weekend invitationals draw some top level competition too. So this weekend we've got the first of the big invitationals with the Bob Blastow Invitational. It's a very popular meet that is run very smoothly by the most experienced meet director in the state. But it's not the only meet happening and several others have some good competition, with the two biggest options being the North Georgia Championships and the Ridge Ferry Invitational. Every coach has a different approach to their season, but clearly the big invitational of the weekend is the most popular choice.
