Tommy Latham Named Gatorade Athlete Of The Year For XC

Tommy Latham from Marist might have just had the best sophomore XC campaign in state history. For starters, only one sophomore boy has ever run faster than Latham for a 5k in cross country, as he became just the second Georgia Sophomore to break the 15 minute barrier this year. His time of 14:56 from the Coach Wood Invitational was also almost the fastest time in the state this year as he was barely out leaned at the line by Joe Sapone for the win. However, Tommy had the best state meet performance of all Georgia runners, as he was the only boy to break 16:00 at state this year. His time of 15:58 makes him the 45th fastest boy on the course. But adjusting for course difficulty moves him up to about 10th overall in the MileSplit era.
