Ethan Ashley Named Gatorade Boys XC Runner of the Year

Ethan Ashley after claiming the 7A state title

Ethan Ashley had a dream season this year. the Denmark senior went undefeated until his very last of the season, which just so happened to be the Eastbay National Championships. He started off his year by going sub 16 at Carrollton Ortho, not an easy feat, especially in the September heat. He then cruised to victory in trainers with a 15:34 at Warpath. He then had one of the most epic finishes of the year when he won by 0.01 seconds in a diving finish at the Alexander/Asics Invitational. He followed that up two weeks later with a dominant win at the Coach Wood Invitational where he put 17 seconds on his competitors all in the last kilometer. He got his win at region out of the way as a formality and then put up the fastest time of the meet at the state meet running a 15:45, the 3rd fastest time on this layout of Carrollton. Following that he qualified for Eastbay Nationals with his 15:00.31 PR, winning the South Regional and finished his season off with a 23rd place finish at Nationals.
