A Public: Commerce Boys and Gordon Lee Girls Repeat

A Public Boys

Brandon Martin of Commerce ended his HS career by once again sweeping the distance events.

Commerce was dominant in class A Public throughout the season, often competing against much larger 3A and 4A teams in northeast Georgia and it paid off once again down in Albany as they crushed the competition. The Tigers scored 102 points for a 50 point margin of victory. Commerce began by winning a surprisingly tight battle against Greene County in the 4x800 relay posting an 8:37. They swept the top 2 spots in the vault behind champ Brandon Lamby's bar of 14-01 and a 2nd place effort by Colin Hall at 12-06. Martin swept the 1600/3200 races and won basically unchallenged. Sammy Brown won the 400m dash at 50.50 and later was 4th in the 200m. JJ Morris took 2nd in the 800m at 2:02 with Brandon Martin crossing 4th at 2:14. Washington-Wilkes blew away the field in the 4x100 relay.

Washington Wilkes and Schley County ended up tied for 3rd with 46 points each. I think track and field should have a tiebreaker as xc does. Say, whoever has the highest finish in the 4x400? Food for thought... Washington-Wilkes won the 4x100 relay at 42.54, Dalen Cobb seized the 100m dash crown going 11.05 and later was runner-up in the 200m at 22.66.

Schley County- Schley was led by David Williams as he won the 800m in 2:03.77, they also were 3rd place in the 4x800 at 8:49.33. The Wildcats scratched and clawed away picking up a few points here, there and it added up to a third-place team tie.
