What were some of the highlights of your high school cross country and track careers?

Running at State for cross country both years of competing (10th & 11th) 2019 - Paulding Country Track High Jump Champion, 3rd at region, 13th at state 2020 - Set East Paulding school record in high jump (5'3) and ended this season ranked 1st in 5a for high jump.

Did you encounter any struggles or adversity along the way that you had to overcome?

Yes, I had a fear of eating the right foods before competition in order to be properly fueled but at the same time not do too much. I struggled with self doubt especially when I made a mistake, which unfortunately happens a ton in high jump. So, learning how to overcome that and get to the next jump, or the next lap. Also, learning how to compete at a high level in a competitive meet. It was easy to compete throughout the season, but how to push to my top ability when others around me were there as well

Aside from the competition, what was the best thing about being a part of your school's program?

I enjoyed being on a team that was able to be themselves. It was easy to go to a meet, being able to be goofy, and being able to work with all parts of that team (sprints, jumps,s distance, etc.)

Are there any coaches or teammates that you've worked with over the past four years that you'd like to thank?

Lexi Geiger, was a senior when I first started. I looked up to her and wanted to do what she was able to do. Chloe, Ayo, and Brylie were teammates of mine for 3 years. Their excitement and friendliness is what drew me to track and made me want to come back everyday. Coach Ford convinced me to try track as a freshmen. Without him I would not have had the experiences and be on my current life track that I am enjoying. He pushed me to be the best me I could be, and to push past any obstacles that I might encounter.

How are you coping with COVID-19 and the looming possibility that your HS track career might very well be over?

At this point I do know that this season is over. So, looking back and appreciating what I did and was a part of for 4 years. Using that to look forward to what I still get to do at the next level.

What are your plans and goals for the future? Do you intend on continuing with the sport in college or in another capacity?

My plan is to compete at the collegiate level in high jump at KSU. I had goals of jumping 5'4 this year and placing well at state. With the season ending short, I am moving those goals to next year, and hoping to place well at the college level.

What advice would you give to a younger athlete who's hoping to have a successful and enjoyable high school career?

Don't take any of the moments for granted. As we found out this year, you never know when it will be over. Track has a process, and as much as I wanted to rush and get to the next PR, trusting the process and going day by day was more beneficial for me.
