This has been a very interesting year on the boys side. Specifically in the 7A classification that saw all sorts of movement every single week. Ultimately, what matters is being at your best at the state meet. Some teams on this list did a good job of staying around their ranking all season, others came on strong at the end. This was one of the coldest state meets I can remember, and usually that translates to faster times, which is probably why we saw the course record shattered at Carrollton in the coldest race of the weekend. There was wind all day Friday that slowed things down a little bit and it got pretty warm (and windy) for the 3A races. But overall this is probably the closest we've been able to compare race to race over the course of the weekend.

Walton just plain showed up, and it was enough for them to take the top spot on these rankings at the end here. The next few spots were all very close, but Harrison did enough to maintain the #2 spot given their season overall. Lambert and West Forsyth showed up big time in the end having strong races to put them near the top and Pope rounds out the top 5 having possibly the best top 3 in the state. Marietta and St. Pius come next both having their best races of the season when it matters most. South Forsyth put together a strong season. But rounding out our rankings are a pair of 3A schools, Westminster and Pace Academy, that had by far the closest race of the meet and give a little more diversity to these rankings than they've seen all season. Just like the rest of the season, there's really not much difference between places 5-15 and I'm sure that if state was next weekend we'd probably have a different order.

There's no way this is how meet of champions will shake out. But that's part of the fun of this sport. Everything comes down to one day. And that can lead to a feeling of jubilation or sorrow. The other fun thing about doing these rankings is that teams can look at them for fun or motivation. The response can be anything from "who cares, we still won state" to "we will prove you wrong next year." It's been fun keeping up with everybody all year. Good luck in the postseason and good luck next year!
