Clayton Harvey troopered on, leading Montgomery County to 1st track title in school history
Montgomery County was doing some soul searching when Clayton Harvey may have tweaked a hamstring , but the Eagles from tiny Mount Vernon, held off defending champs Turner Couny by 6 points winning their first GHSA track & field state title in school history. Clayton Harvey was the catalyst, as the Senior was an inspiration to all his teamates battling thru injury. Harvey won Gold in the 200m (22.15) and silver in the 400m (49.84) and placed 6th in the LJ. Trey Ricks ran to silver in the 800m (2:04.32), Da'Quan Jackson snagged a silver in the TJ at 44-10 and bronze in the 300h (39.58) and with a title on the line, Montgomery County pushed it in the 4x400 taking silver at 3:28.99. The Eagles came up big in field events, as Jaheim Wilson took 2nd in the discus (147-01) and later 4th in the Shot with Ty'un Roundtree taking 5th.
Trendarius Henderson and Jatavion Boone of Turner County lean for Gold in the 300h
Turner County took it down to the 4x400, but more limited with scoring opps. The Rebels were led by Trendarius Henderson, who won Gold in the 300h (38.81), silver in the 110h (14.51) and 3rd in the TJ (44-07) Jatavious Boone struck Gold in the 110h (14.35) and 2nd in the 300h (38.83) Aletan McKinney placed 4th (LJ) and 5th (TJ) Turner County raced to Gold in the 4x400 going 3:24.58
Jasper Wilson led Gordon Lee sweeping the distance races
Gordon Lee thrived on the field and in distance (41 points) ascending team Podium 3rd. Jasper Wilson swept the distance events. Wilson went 4:49.63 (1600m) and Friday 10:32.81 (3200m) Ian Godwin won silver in the 1600 (4:50) and 4th in the 3200m. Jake Lee picked up a silver in the 3200 (10:34) Braden Jarvis won Gold in the PV with a bar of 13-0, and Wiley Heming placed 4th (HJ)
Commerce made it back on the team Poium with 49 points. JJ Morris took bronze in the 1600m 4:52 and 5th (3200m) Brandon Martin ran to bronze in the 3200m (10:36) In the field, The Tigers scored 14 points in the vault, with Greyson Burke taking 2nd (12-0) and Tucker Flint (12-0) Shannon Segars took 3rd in the LJ (20-11.50) On Saturday, DaJuan Wood took 3rd in the 400m (51.17)

Telfair County sealed the A PUB girls title in the 4x400
Telfair County successfully defended their 2017 title, ending the meet scoring 12 points in the 4x400 jumping over leader Gordon Lee. The Lady Trojans racked up 48 big points during finals, after coming in with 26 points. Telfair began the day taking silver in the 4x100 (49.77) NyAsia Howard took 2nd in the 400m (1:00.63). They added 7 points in the 800m behind Paige White and Arneshia Hardee. Kendasia Swinson picked up 4th (300h) and their 4x400 A squad ran to Gold in 4:07.24. Hardee scored a bronze in the 1600m Friday (5:54) Howard won the TJ Friday with a mark of 36-2.50
Gracie O'Neal of Gordon Lee swept the 800/1600 races
Gordon Lee (like their boys squad) rang up big points in distance and from the field. Gracie O'Neal took Golds in the 1600m (5:20.59) and the 800m (2:23.12) Kaylee Brown scored 18 points winning Gold in the PV (10-07) and silver in the HJ (5-02) Madison Mayberry took 2nd 2nd place in the vault (8-06) Addison Sturdivant added a silver in the 300h (47.36) and earlier a bronze in the 100h (16.49)
Tycoriah Danner of Washington-Wilkes sprinted to Gold in the 100m
Washington-Wilkes took 3rd as a team with 49 points. Tycoriah Danner sped to Gold in the 100m (12.15) Kiara Binns added a Gold in the 200m (25.79) and their 4x400 squad plucked out a silver (4:11.66) In the field events, Jazmyne Fry took 3rd in the discus (117-0).
Pelham took the final team Podium position with 42 points. The Hornets (aptly named for that area) scored big in the Shot Put, as Krystian Jones won Gold at 37-02 and Kenjanai Brown nabbed silver (36-4.50) Mahogany Randall took 3rd in the LJ (16-9.25) and also 3rd in the TJ (34-11.50) the Hornets also picked up points in the 100m/200m
