4A 1600 runners enter the first turn (pic by Atlanta Track Club)
4A- There was a runaway train on the tracks in 4A and its name was Frank Pittman. Pittman had the top 1600m time this season at 4:08 from Sectionals and it was a matter of just how he wanted to win the lightning delayed (3 times) 4A 1600 race tonight. Pittman made it obligatory, as he took off at the gun never looking back (at one point having a gap of nearly 50m on the field) easily winning the Gold for Marist. Frank's splits were: 1:00, 2:04 and 3:10 as he took a 'victory lap' on 4 crusing in for the title at 4:13.49. Unbeknowst to him, a furious battle was going on for the next 2 medals... Thomas Moore of North Oconee stayed the course, earning the Silver medal in 4:18.60 edging Marist's frosh prodigy Leif Andersen, who clocked a 4:19.90 in a photo finish over Harper Nail of Whitewater HS.
