AAAA Boys
Once again AAAA is loaded. When you know your competition is good you have to step up your training. That appears to be happening with the top teams in AAAA. Rumors say that several teams have run big miles this summer. There are also rumors of big time move - ins. It will be interesting how all this shakes out over the course of the season.
Parker Nail of Whitewater HS
1) Whitewater - A strong team last year that placed 5th at State may have gotten some summer help all the way from Hawaii to propel them into the #1 spot. Parker Nail, Don Harp and Harry harp give them a formidable top 3.
2) North Oconee- very good last year xc season + good track season + strong summer of training = another run at the state championship. The Titans return 4 of their top 7 including Harper Sigler, Thomas Moore (who had a strong Outdoor season and Anthony Potts. Look for Austin Joost to make a splash this season and it doesn't hurt that frosh Brady Kalessa (4:54 1600) and transfer Dawson Frey (2014 MS Small School XC Champ) to get better as the season gets later.
3) St. Pius - The reality is that any of the top 3 teams could be ranked #1 right now. St. Pius continues to produce high level runners year after year. Based on this summer's running and the eligibility of last years top "JV" runner there should be more breakout stars. Don't be surprised if they move to #1 at some point early in the season. Frank Crippen-Ginsberg (after sitting out a year) to be their top gun along with help from Daniel Grosch (4:37 1600),
4) Marist - Possibly no other AAAA boys team had a better state meet last year. That is no accident. Led by Frank Pittman this year's Marist team looks poised to "over achieve." Don't be surprised if they are in the mix by November. Knox Pittman had a strong Outdoor season. Jimmy Brewster and Quinn Burden ran very well at State last season.
5) North Hall - As always they will be strong and their top guys looked good this summer. They will need to add depth though if they want to podium in AAAA. Corson Teasley looks to be in the mix for an Individial title and Tommy Johnston will look to improve upon an excellent soph season. Some believe the Trojans will be stronger at 4/5 this season.
6) Johnson - last year's Cinderella will not surprise anyone this year. This team could be a podium team if things click. Rumor is they have a new coach...last season's dramatic improvement as a program will be a hard act to follow though. Gerardo Suarez is back (though he did not run Track) Issac Hernandez and Javier Gonzalez should lend strong support.
7) Pickens County - anytime you have a contender for the individual title it helps your team in the final results. Sean Parker will need help fro the Dragons to move up higher though. Tyler Ledford should lend help to their quest for a Podium Spot. Their top 5 are all underclassmen...
8) White County - Last season the Warriors got caught in a tight spot inthe vortex of ultra tough 8-AAAA and did not Q' for State and lost their ace to graduation. This team features one of the tightest packs in AAAA (1-5 Split of 09.20 This makes them a top 10 team and possibly a podium team.
9) Buford - Another squad that got caught in the web of 8-AAAA, but a team on the rise. Coach Eager has steadily guided the Wolves program into a solid program and are getting used to spending time in the top 10. They return 5 of their top 7 from Region including their top 2 of Andone Mendoza and Avery Webster.
10) Chestatee - Another 8-AAAA program that continues to improve each year and had a surprising 4th place finish at Region. . With some depth this team could really move up. Ivan Martin and Logan Brock are their top returners.
