Westlake's 4x400 team makes an exchange in the Zone
Team Outlook:
McEachern, Westlake have duked it out all season and after running a Virtual meet based on Sectionals it can't get any closer. This matchup is destined to come down to the 'Finale' of the Girls State meet which should bring the meet to a crescendo of epic proportions.
Westlake has been a fine tuned Track machine for many seasons and has shown no signs of slowing down. Qualifying 8 athletes for Individual events, their strengths lie in Relays, Jumps, Hurdles and Sprints and why not toss in a good 800m runner as well. They have unusual range for a few athletes, but are powered by their great Relay teams. The Lions stand to pick up mucho points by several athletes in the horizontals including Anriel Howard in the TJ along with Kayla Stinson. In the LJ points will be at a premium with bounders Ra'breekia Harrison and Mia Phillips. Hurdlers Kayla Stinson, Kennedy Simon (also in the 400m) and Sydney Henderson. Justice Reeves will have an opp to score big in the 100m.
McEachern moved only 5 athletes into Individual events but all of them can score big points. The Indians engine is driven by star Makenzie Dunmore who should make a splash in the 400 and be chasing Candace Hill in the 200m. Kristin Hall is bangup in the 100h and especially the 300h. Rayna White is set to contend in the 100h. Nilajah Florence and Shania Evans will have opps to chip in at the 400 and 100m dashes.
Aliyah Abrams (l) and Serenity Douglas from Archer are contenders in the 400m Dash
The Rams from Grayson may not push McEachern or Westlake but have enough ammo to dispatch a very competive 6A field to surely earn a Podium spot. Aliyah Abrams is a beast in the 200/400 and their Relay squads are excellent.
Mary Jeanne Assinzo of Marietta
Marietta has the horses to earn a team Podium spot in AAAAAA this weekend. Mary Jeanne Assinzo is a dual threat in the 800 (defending champ) and 1600 meters races. Allenia Ponder comes out of Sectionals #1 in the LJ, and Nia Sheldon should do well in the Shot.
Candace Hill highsteps her way down the track for Rockdale. Can she go sub 11.30 in Albany?
On the outside looking in are Hillgrove led by Tene Thompson and Victoria Jackson. South Forsyth who is strong in the distance events with Kaylee Dupont, Savannah Carnahan and Millicent Bergey. Rockdale County led nationally ranked Sprinter Candace Hill and their Relay teams. There are a mish mash of many teams capapble of scoring 20+ including Etowah, Campbell, Milton and Northview.
Makenzie Dunmore has enjoyed an outstanding season and is favored to take the 400m
Lindsay Billings of Northview and Mary Jeanne Assinzo of Marietta should have big meets this week! (pic by Daniel McCauley)
Savannah Carnahan of South Forsyth has a chance to score big in distance races as well as Kaylee Dupont.
