Asics Alexander Produces Some Hot Racing as North Oconee, Friedman, South Forsyth and Carnahan Win Titles
Championship Boys
Reilly Friedman's 14:48 at Fox Hall was reminiscent of Joe Thorne's incredible performance back in 2002? at McIntosh Nature Preserve course running alongside the Chattahoochee River. The boys all got out very quick, knowing it was a pr course and it seemed not too many people were racing for place or playing it conservative. There wasn't a whole lot of movement throughout the race. Friedman took the lead from the gun and never looked back. Mustafaa tried to go with Friedman, but was dropped by the mile. North Oconee looked good the whole way. Murphee from Woodward and Kennedy from Jackson did too. Friedman won unchallenged by some excellent harriers (proving his conditioning may be second to none All-Classes winning by :31)...From 15:19 to 15:34 13 runners crossed the mats including Shaw's Hakeem Mustafaa, fresh off a win at Westover placing 2nd in 15:19, Chase Kennedy of East Jackson won by a neck over Woodward's Alex Murfee both at 15:25. Christian Bowles was a step back also at 15:25, and the North Oconee duo of Tyler Jones and Cole Thornton went 15:27/15:28! The Titans beat 4A rival North Hall, sure to move them up to 2nd behind St.Pius X in the rankings. South Forsyth placed 2nd teamwise, followed by North Hall. Blessed Trinity ran great besting #1 East Jackson by 16 points in a tilt of whirl betwixt 3A rivals.
Championship Girls
Its alot easier to win meets/championships when your top 3 finish in the first 6 places as 6A South Forsyth did at Asics Saturday. Savannah Carnahan led the way again for the Eagles winning Overall honors at 17:24 with frosh teammate Kaylee Dupont :14 back for 2nd place at 17:38. Dupont closed the gap over the second half of the race.Soph Millicent Bergey was 6th overall clocking a 18:31. Wetminster continued to show signs of maturing as a squad taking 2nd as a team led once again by frosh Delaney Graham's 8th overall at 18:38 and spanked rival Blessed Trinity. Siegel HS edged 2A Darlington by 1 point to seize 3rd as a team. Jenna Gearing from White County showed signs of resurgence taking 3rd place overall posting a 17:47. Soph Allyssa Hooker from Lakeside Evans was 5th place in 18:29. Stephanie Ward was back up front pacing Darlington at 7thin 18:31. In 5A, Starrs Mill and Dunwoody both beat #1 McIntosh handily which should shake up 5A Girls.
