Lovett Dominates the Competition Winning the 2A Team Title
In a tight 4x100m relay, Laney HS from Augusta sped around the track taking the Gold medal posting a 49.10, with Lovett hot on their heels in 2nd at 49.35, Wesleyan 3rd and Monticello 4th.
Cairo Booker of Wesleyan had a great race after a speedy prelim round and won the 400m dash posting a 58.83. Sydnie Parker from Calhoun HS took 2nd in 59.30 with GAC's Kennedy Street grabbing the Bronze medal a step back in 59.46. Khadejah Jackson of Lovett added 5 points getting 4th.
Taylor DeLoach from St. Vincent's Academy out of Savannah (already with a Gold medal from the LJ in her bag) made sure her long trip to Albany was fortuitous, racing to the 100m dash crown besting 2A season leader Mahogany Walter from Thomasville clocking a 12.21. Walter added huge points for the Bulldogs in 2nd at 24.82. Kionna Walker from Laney took the Bronze medal back home posting a 25.55.
Sally Woerner of Rabun County recently signed her NLI with Western Carolina University, and had a flawless race in the 100h with a career best time of 15.09 giving the folks back in Tiger something to celebrate. Stephanie Reynolds of GAC was a close 2nd in 15.22, with Samone Burger of Dublin 3rd.
The 800 meters was captured by Ellen Powell of Bleckley County as she took off early creating separation of up to 20 meters on the backstretch, and held on strong until the finish posting a 2:19.44. Lexy Rouse from Westminster passed several runners the final 250 meters getting 2nd in 2:23.32. 2013 2A XC champ Emma Garrison placed 3rd just behind Rouse in 2:24.01.
The 200 meter dash was much like the 100m with DeLoach of SVA adding her 3rd Gold medal off the meet, again passing Walter of Thomasville in the final meters of the race at 24.68. Walter had a speedy 24.82 for 2nd and Walker of Laney was 3rd at 25.55.
In a close race, Tierra Whitlock from Monticello HS seized the crown in the 300h in 44.72 edging Khadejah Jackson of Lovett at 44.95 giving Lovett fans even more to celebrate. Antwinisha Hill from Cook County placed 3rd in 46.52
Wesleyan always brings strong 4x400 squads to Albany and the 2014 squad added to the legend placing 1st in 4:01.47. NE Macon had a strong squad taking the Silver in 4:06 with Jeff Davis placing 3rd in 4:08. Lovett probably ran both alternates, getting 7th capping off their team title.
