2A Girls State Meet Preview

                                               2A Girls State Meet Preview

The action for AA begins on the Field Thursday and T'ville (as we know it down south) could get a big start behind Danisha Jones as she could double in the Throws though Tristan Herndon of Jeff Davis may push her in the Discus. Olivia Ferguson of Metter and Stephanie Reynolds from GAC have pr's of 5-4 in the HJ which could become a war of attrition. DeLoach of SVA is a huge favorite in the LJ with a pr of 20-1. Bremen may sweep the Vault as they sport the top bars this Spring in AA behind Kaylee Riley (11-7) and Sarah Zimmerman (11-6). 3 Girls are within an inch (prs) of each other in the TJ at 36-0.

AA will get to compete in the 3200 finals Thursday evening. The Sectionals for the top girls was purely to Q' as judged by their pedestrian times, so these ladies will be aching to race again on the big stage. Only 3 girls have pr's sub 12: so they will more than likely leave the chase pack after the 2nd lap including Lovett's duo of Hailey Branch (11:12) & Serena Tripodi and Westminster's Gabby Bunnell. The 1600 finals are Friday with Lovett having a sterling opportunity to add 18 more distance points with Branch & Tripodi. Veteran Caroline Reed of Wesleyan will be in tow to breakup a Lions sweep as will 2013 XC Champ Emma Garrison from Union County.

Top individual athletes to be aware of dduring prelims are Mahogony Walter of Thomasville (100/200), Taylor DeLoach of SVA (100/200), Kionna Walker of Laney (100), the 400m is wide open now-no favorites. In the 800m run Ellen Powell from Bleckley at 2:20pr is :03 faster than Camille Porter from Jefferson. In the 100 Hurdles a clean run and lean at the line could make a big difference as 4 athletes have pr's within .07 of each other with Samone Burger of Dublin #1 at 15.48. The 300 hurdles are a different beast as Lovett's Khadejah Jackson has the fastest time this Spring at 45.98 followed by Whitlock of Monticello in 46.37.  WEsleyan has the potential to sweep the Relays but Laney has the fastest 4x100 time at 49.24. The team champs could be decided in the 4x400 Saturday.
