Week 4 Ga.MileSplit Cross Country Rankings

6A

The 6A girls see Etowah jump ahead of the pack with a virtual tie with All-Class #1 Marist at Warpath.  Peachtree Ridge and Brookwood had quite a dual at Carrollton and any of these three schools look to be able to win it all on the right day.  Collins Hill looked good in an out of state appearance, their first race since Stage Races.  Milton, West Forsyth, and South Forsyth made some the biggest moves this week with some impressive results.  Milton and West relying on a tight pack, while South as the front runner and some strong help.  Gwinnett County will be quite a battle and don't be surprised to see North Gwinnett jump into the rankings after they get a shot at the other top Gwinnett schools.  This is a year with a great deal of parity so far, especially from 5th through 10th.

The Boys 6A didn't see as many of the ranked teams racing or running all out.  Next week will be a bigger test.  However, Peachtree Ridge took another shot at All-Class #1 St. Pius in Carrollton this week.  The battle of the Lions again went to Pius, but the Ridge is still deep with a strong front runner in Mills.  Gwinnett County will tell us a great deal as 1 through 3 could be reshuffled depending on who has the best day at River Green.  Also, will Parkview and Collins Hill make some noise to move up to join their county brethren.

5A- Greenbrier moved up 6 spots in the Boys Rankings after finishing just 9 points behind 2nd ranked Starrs Mill at Carrollton Orthopaedic in the Championship race. Northview ran well at Warpath moving into the top 10 up to 6th. Clarkston placed 2nd behind Lakeside-DeKalb in the 4A-5A race at Ortho for a well deserved 9th spot. I can't remember the last time Clarkston has ever made the Rankings.. Starrs Mill's girls cemented their top ranking placing 7th at Ortho in the 'Big Girls' race. Northgate came screaming up the ladder after not being on the radar with a 22:10 team average at Carrollton. Northview popped up into 9th after a 7th place finish at Warpath.

4A- Very little movement in 4A Heritage Catoosa was omitted by mistake last week and back in 4th. Marist maintained their superiority as they should all season with both squads perhaps setting scoring records at State

3A- The weather changed for this weekend’s racing and Georgia’s kids really shined!  Keep weather and courses in mind as you mull over week 4 rankings.  West Hall is a quick course, but it was run on a hot Tuesday afternoon.  Carrollton is our state’s hilly test, but it was run with better weather.  Fastest times came from the combination of fast courses and fast weather (Warpath and Furman)… the new Eagle ran almost ‘Westover-ish’ with blazing times.

We have some exciting things happening in AAA.  On the boys’ side, St Pius was impressive in their big win at Carrollton, defending their spot as Georgia’s all class #1 squad.  North Hall made a huge move this week and will have the Lions thinking about Trojan green for the next 2 months.  Woodward ran without Sands this weekend and looks to be the state’s #3 as of now.  Welcome Blessed Trinity to the AAA podium picture, setting up a great and very close battle with North Oconee.

For the ladies, Blessed Trinity and St Pius impressed again with Blessed Trinity holding onto a slight advantage and the St Pius depth through 7 runners quickly making up ground.  Woodward and North Oconee were near mirror images of one another at Ortho, with Woodward’s 5th runner giving them a slight edge on the Lady Titans for now.  North Hall’s girls made up ground, narrowing the gap a little to the top 5 girls teams in AAA.

2A- Westminster's Girls moved back on top after 2 races this past week including defeating rival Lovett at a small home meet perfect scoring the Lions with 15 points and then making their annual Invitaional debut at Carrollton placing 8th just behind  top ranked 5A Starrs Mill. Lovett settled into 2nd and Wesleyan 3rd. St. Vincent's moved up a couple spots to 7th. The Cats remained in first after Ortho, the Cadets of Benedictine moved up 3 spots to 4th after a strong showing at a Savannah Country Day meet placing 2nd behind ranked 3A squad Savannah Arts. THomasville rose to 7th after a 3rd place finish at Bearcat 'way down south'
