Clayton State competes at The NCAA Division II level and is a member of the Peach Belt Conference. The 2005 men's team won the Peach Belt and sent its first team to the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships. In 2007, 2008 & 2009, the Lakers finished second in the Peach Belt. The women's team has produced two All-Americans since 2004 and finished a close second in 2006 at the Peach Belt championship meet.
