3A Boys Team Rankings Week Ending 10-18 Georgia Ranking Committee Oct 22, 2015

It wasn't a busy week of racing in Boys 3A and there was no movement amongst the top 10. the most significant performance was by Oconee County as the Warriors gave the All-Class ranked North Oconee squad all they could handle at the Clarke Oconee Championships Tuesday. No Warrior squad has raced this well since the 2004/2005 teams. Definitely closed the gap some on Westminster & Blessed Trinity and may have put some distance between an ever improving East Jackson squad.

Alexander / Asics Recap: Carnahan and Kennedy Rule the Day Bruce Taylor Oct 11, 2015

Weather looked to be an issue coming into this meet late Friday, but, after the course got a good soakin' overnight, it seemed to drain quite well by the early 'dark' start of the Championship Boys race. A thick blanket of mist enveloped the fields at first, but, as the morning progressed, it steadily rose up to reveal the beautiful, flat course ahead.

3A Boys Team Rankings Week Ending 9/20 Georgia Ranking Committee Sep 24, 2015

This was a quiet week at the top of AAA, but Blessed Trinity did run the Fulton County Championships and several AAA squads faced off at the West Hall Invite early in the week. Banks County's boys and girls have now cracked the top 10 for the first time and there was some movement in spots 6-10 for boys and girls. Watch List squads from each week are all ranked 11th from this point on.

3A Girls Team Rankings Week Ending 9/13 Georgia Ranking Committee Sep 15, 2015

We saw Westminster's Girls for the first time at Carrollton this week and they look poised for a title run as well. Blessed Trinity and Westminster will again be watching one another all season (especially Girls) and attempt to peak at the right time to take a state title. Big movers of the week are Morgan's girls moving up to 5th. Experienced XC stat guys and girls here in the state understand the difficulty of courses like Carrollton and Double Dip, so rankings are definitely taking course ratings into consideration.

All Class Boys Team Rankings Week Ending 9/6 Georgia Ranking Committee Sep 9, 2015

Okay, Milton is at the top of the Week ending 9-6 All Class rankings. Can they hold it, as Mill Creek and Brookwood both looked very tough early. 4A power squads Marist and St. Pius X follow that 6A group with many wondering where is Khayvonn Benson from Marietta. 3A Girls Team Rankings Week Ending 9/6 Georgia Ranking Committee Sep 8, 2015

AAA girls is a similar story with Blessed Trinity and Westminster giving serious quality at the top. Hart County has made giant leaps these past couple of seasons and lands at a comfortable #3 in AAA for now. Dawson could be our 4th podium team with several challengers coming up from spots 5-10. Blessed Trinity's Mary Claire Solomon have a target on her back as favorite for the Individual state title 2 months from now.

3A Boys Team Rankings Week Ending 9/6 Georgia Ranking Committee Sep 8, 2015

AAA boys open up the season with serious quality at the top. Blessed Trinity takes the #1 spot after beating Oconee head to head at Berry on Saturday. Oconee has made a big jump, in there very close with Westminster and East Jackson. The podium looks full with those 4 teams, but it's a long season. Individually, East Jackson's Chase Kennedy will have a target on his back as favorite for state title 2 months from now.

AAA Girls Pre-Season Outlook Bruce Taylor Aug 13, 2015

AAA Girls is very similar to Boys as Westminster and Blessed Trinity's deep and traditionally strong Girls programs are just on another level than everyone else. Westminster returns everyone and Blessed Trinity their top 6. It will be fun to see if they run heads up before Region as its seems they avoid each other during the regular season. Hart County is a strong 3rd but it would take cloning Audrey Honiotes x 2 to come even close to the Cats and Titans. There seems to be large gaps between other top 10 schools aside from Savannah Arts and Coahulla Creek at 4/5. 8-AAA's Dawson County, Morgan County, Fannin County and East Jackson will fight at Region for State spots. Decatur is a top 10 team early. Pierce County placed 15th at State and's a bit of a mystery due to the courses they compete on during the season. Oconee County graduated their core and after making the Podium in 2014 and will need to rebuild.

3A Girls 100 Fastest Returners Bruce Taylor Aug 12, 2015

3A Girls will suffer no shortage of talent this Fall as an amazing 26 of the top 29 from State are back including defending Champ Audrey Honiotes from Hart County. What's crazy is all the frosh that will return including 3 XC All-Staters including: Westminster's Delaney Graham, East Jackson's Sue Anne Moralis (800 & 1600m Champ) and Emma Rose Bagwell of Blessed Trinity. Mary Claire Solomon of Blessed was 2014 XC runnerup who was making up ground on Honiotes the last mile at State. Westminster's Margaret Maxwell and Gabby Bunnell are also athletes to look out for.

3A Boys 100 Fastest Returners Bruce Taylor Aug 12, 2015

3A is loaded Individually as 10 of the top 14 boys from the State meet are set to return headed by defending 3A XC and 3200 Meter Champ Chase Kennedy from East Jackson and his twin bro Chandler Kennedy (2nd in XC, 3rd in 1600) Look for Decatur's Sam Ellis to move up this season after a great Outdoor season in which he swept the 3A 800 and 1600 titles. Oconee boasts a pair of strong individuals led by Michael Hans and Issac Krumm. Blessed Trinity as a trio of speedsters with Ben McCoy, Robby Gipson and Leo Pryor.

AAA Girls State Meet Preview Bruce Taylor May 5, 2015

AAA may have a first time team Champion on the way as Westside Macon looks great coming out of Sectionals, but never count out battle tested Blessed Trinity or talented Maynard Jackson out of ATL.

Metro Atlanta Area Championships ReCap in Pics Daniel McCauley Apr 2, 2015

The Inaugural Metro Area Championships proved to be an exciting two days of jumping, throwing, and racing at St. Pius X on Saturday, March 28, & Monday the 30th. Meet Director Ryan McClay made adjustments to the schedule for the benefit of the athletes as unseasonably cold temperatures brought an unwelcome chill Saturday. In contrast, perfect, warm racing conditions on Monday greeted finalists and helped produce impressive times. Here are some of MileSplit photographer Dan McCauley's favorites.

3A Girls- Westminster Girls Romp, Honiotes of Hart Triumphs Bruce Taylor Nov 9, 2014

There was no fooling around at Carrollton in the 3A Girls Championship race.  #5 All-Class Westminster was just too strong for the defending 3A Champs Blessed Trinity.  Region 6 has often had these 2 squads collide in the past with the Region champ bowing to the runnerup at State. No such tomfoolery this Fall as the Cats crushed it.  Audrey Honiotes has done something rare showing strong improvement from her freshman season when she placed 2nd overall to winning the Overall title Saturday in 19:26 on a Carrollton course that was running a bit slow.

3A Boys- East Jackson, Blessed Trinity Take It to the Limit Bruce Taylor Nov 9, 2014

Did this race ever turn into how it was billed? An East Jackson squad top heavy with 3 front runners, Blessed Trinity a solid squad with a couple guys who have been their top harriers with a tighter 1-6, and a Westminster squad which improved consistently thru October.  At State (as a former Dacula trio knows) tighter packs and soild 4-5 guys win state titles.  It went down to the bone decided by a 6th runner tiebreak witht he deeper Titan squad prevailing for the 3A title. One has to give credit to East Jackson's trio as they went 1.2,4 with Chase Kennedy taking the Overall crown.

Class 3A Boys State Meet Preview Sam Borg Nov 5, 2014

Podium teams look to be Blessed Trinity, East Jackson, Westminster, and Oconee County. Blessed Trinity has a small time spread 1-5, but East Jackson has one of the best front three in Georgia with the Kennedy Brothers and Noah Hulett.  Westminster has tradition on their side while Oconee County showed at region they cannot be overlooked. Savannah Arts will need to prove they can handle the Hills and pressure of the AAA State race.

Class 3A Girls State Meet Preview Sam Borg Nov 5, 2014

Although AAA is a little down after the departure of some heavy hitters to 4A, Westminster, Blessed Trinity, Hart County , and Oconee County should be the top contenders for a spot on the Podium. Westminster looks to be the favorite to win another title but did  Blessed Trinity hold back at Region?  Audrey Honiotes of Hart County, Westminster’s Delaney Graham, and MaryClaire Solomon should be in the lead pack once the gun goes off on November 8th.

Final Pre-State Class 3A Team Rankings Georgia Ranking Committee Nov 3, 2014

Westminster Girls handled Blessed Trinity with ease at their home course. But, this has happened before...was Blessed Trinity sandbagging? Dawson County Girls clubbed Fannin and Banks County at Region moving up. Pierce County may be in the Rankings for the first time ever after their region meet and I have to question the course length..Westminster gave Blessed Trinty fits at Region in the boys race thus jumping over East Jackson.  Savannah Arts easily won their region and are a darkhorse to make the Podium. We'll find out how they handle the Carrollton hills and pressure..SE Bullock snuck in the top 10 after a fast region time (course?)

Week 8 Ga.MileSplit Class 3A Team Rankings Georgia Ranking Committee Oct 14, 2014

Shake up in top 3 of 3A boys.  Blessed Trinity takes the top spot after a NARROW head to head victory over East Jackson.  If Chase Kennedy runs normal, East Jackson still wins.  This is turning into a very close 3 horse race with Westminster, Blessed Trinity, and East Jackson. Westminster girls sent a message and separated a little bit at the top of 3A girls, although the Titans were missing #1. Hart County may well have their best Girls team in school history this Fall.

Week 7 Ga.MileSplit Class 3A Team Rankings Georgia Ranking Committee Oct 8, 2014

Well, well...the more things change, the more they stay the same...  But not so fast this week baby....Banks County ran well at the Mountain Invite as both their squads moved into 6th in the Week 7 3A Rankings. Let's look for some truth after next Saturday as finally........Blessed Trinity and Westminster's Girls are slated to compete looking at Asics' entries, to go 'heads up' in a sure barnburner at Asics!! (Don't be shocked if they end up in different races, LOL) East Jackson and Westminster's boys are 'possibly' on a collision course at Asics Alexander...(although at press time) Westminster's boys are not entered.

Week 6 Ga.MileSplit Class 3A Rankings 9-27 Georgia Ranking Committee Sep 30, 2014

Westminster's boys ran well at Atlanta Classic besting rival Blessed Trinity moving into 2nd. East Jackson loos stronger than ever maybe having found their 5th...Jackson County beat Hart head on at Soaring Eagle moving into the top 10 this week.  Westminster and Blessed Trinity's Girls programs successfully avoided racing against each other again last week...Oconee's girls showed some life at Aubrae Gunderson moving up after winning the 'Blue' race. Morgan and Banks cracked the top 10 this week.

Carrollton Orthopedic Invitational Preview Bruce Taylor Sep 11, 2014

After maybe having a few less teams attend than in the past, the Carrollton Orthopedic Invitational is 67 HS teams strong again and should have over 2000 runners registered for action Saturday. Many of the top programs in Georgia will run their entire squads and a few will hold out their top runners for another day... The Sunshine State has  arguably three of the best boys teams in the state, two of the best girls teams in the state , the top freshman in the state on the girls side, and a potential foot locker finalist in Sukhi Khosla on the boys side lacing it up with our state's student-athletes. Its a star studded event that could turn into a barnburner depending on what teams from Ga choose to run in the Championship race....

Warpath Invitational Preview Taylor Ford Sep 11, 2014

Warpath looks like an interesting meet even with a few teams not running their varsity. On this quick course where only two have broken 15:40, Logan Poteet will be trying to reset his own course record. This 3 loop course has had some changes based on previous events held at the course. This year the middle school runners will be running last which puts the Varsity Girls start at 8am. This race looks like its setting up to be a good race to run a season PR for most.

3A Team Rankings Week Ending 9-6 Georgia Ranking Committee Sep 9, 2014

3A Rankings were very similar to 4A's for wek ending 9-6. Oconee County's Girls swapped places with Savannah Arts at 6-7 and Blessed Trinity's boys moved ahead of Oconee's boys after easily defeated Westminster at Covered Bridge. Blessed and Westminster's girls have not  went head to head yet (as usual)

Week 2 Ga.MileSplit 3A Team Rankings Georgia Ranking Committee Sep 2, 2014

The landscape of 3A has been drastically altered by the new alignment and its opened some doors for many teams to perhaps make the Podium for the first time in recent school history. Currently East Jackson's Boys are in control with a talented top 4. With Westminster's Girls having not competed in an invitational thus far, Blessed Trinity's Girls are in a different solar system than all other 3A squads.

3A Girls Pre-Season Top 5 Bruce Taylor Aug 20, 2014

3A Girls is going to bring back memories of some great Blessed Trinity vs Westminster state battles from back in the day.  Blessed Trinity placed 1st in super tough 3A last season and Westminster tied Wesleyan in a contraversial after awards presentation decision reached by the GHSA.  Its going to be great watching them knock heads again.  Oconee County has a great shot at making the Podium based on data, with 4 other schools legit contenders to crack that stage and get some props.

3A Boys Pre-Season Rankings #1 Bruce Taylor Aug 19, 2014

Blessed Trinity's boys have emerged as 3A Pre-Season #1.  Having the 4 fastest returning boys (by time) and 6 returners from the top 7 puts a target on their back for Podium contenders.

Top 50 Returning Girls in 3A Bruce Taylor Aug 19, 2014

One thing about 3A Girls is very clear...Hart County soph Audrey Honiotes now has an open door to run thru and dominate the Class after a superb frosh season. There's plenty of girls going to be in the chase from Westminster, Blessed Trinity and a region rival from Banks County though...

Top 50 Returning Boys in 3A Bruce Taylor Aug 18, 2014

Its a brand new Rodeo in 3A this season with powerhouse teams moving up to 4A this season. One has to go down to 18th place in last year's 3A race to find fastest returners in this article. Westminster has finally moved up in Class after dominating AA for years which means a new champ will be crowned in 3A both teamwise and individually. Blessed Trinity boasts the top 4 in fastest returning times, but watch out for a few East Jackson harriers who have been receiving the benefit of some World Class coaching.

3A Girls State Meet Preview Bruce Taylor Apr 30, 2014

Its shaping up to be a 'redo' between Region 6 foes Blessed Trinity, Pius and Woodward Academy. The difference maker is going to be who got out of Sectionals in good shape for these teams.  North Oconee has their strongest team in years and could be in the hunt for a Podium spot. Maynard Jackson, Franklin County, Decatur and SE Bulloch should all be players for a top 4 team finish

3A Sectionals ReCap Bruce Taylor Apr 28, 2014

St.Pius X boys will be hard to beat easily qualifying all their top scorers for the Ga Olympics..its possible they could sweep the distance events, throws and horizontals making it a race for the next 3 team positions.  On the girls side of 'A' sectionals, Pius did well with the girls who survived Region. Blessed Trinity and Maynard Jackson also had successful outings and will be on the "old scoreboards' down in Albany come Saturday. Out of Sectional 'B' at East Jackson,  Franklin County, Buford and Johnson Savannah will bring some speed down to Albany.  White County, North Hall, Hart County and North Oconee dominated the distance races and should be a factor. North OC's girls also q'd their top Field athletes into state, including Mary Terry who cleared 5-8 in the HJ and could score well in the Hurdles.  For the boys, North Hall and North OC jousted in all the distance events and will be chasing the Pius X guys next weekend. The heat on the Track in Jefferson will come from Elbert County, Buford and Washington County. Can WACO's Q'Poole go sub 47 in the 400m? Preston Smith from SE Bulloch will be gunning to triple in the Jumps.

AAA Region Championships 'Athletes of the Week' Bruce Taylor Apr 24, 2014

The AAA Region Championships 'Athletes of the Week' are Bailey Willett of Blessed Trinity after she ran a smokin' 2:14 in the 800m at 6-AAA, and throws 'Specialist' Daniel Haugh from St.Pius X as he doubled in both events, including unleashing yet another awesome toss of 187-9 in the Discus.

Atlanta Track Club's Girls AAA Region ReCap Bruce Taylor Apr 21, 2014

Region 6 will take alot of qualifiers to the Sectional at Lakewood Stadium including champ Blessed Trinity, Woodward and St.Pius X. Also taking a busload of qualifiers to ATL will be Cartersville, Maynard Jackson and Chapel Hill. North Oconee may have their strongest team in years going to the Sectional at East Jackson HS.

3A Girls Team Power Rankings ending 4-1 Bruce Taylor Apr 2, 2014

Week ending 4-1 the St.Pius Girls are atop the 3A Girls Team Power Rankings, but are very heavy on distance points. Maynard Jackson is right on their heels along with Blessed Trinity. North Oconee and Woodward Academy have the potential to be Podium teams down in Albany.

3A Girls Team Power Rankings thru 3-18 Bruce Taylor Mar 18, 2014

Leading the 3A Girls Team Power Rankings thru 3-18 are the St.Pius X girls squad, but its alot closer than the points suggest as they are distance heavy big time. Maynard Jackson sits in 2nd place,  with Blessed Trinity just behind followed by North Oconee and Woodward Academy, These rankings were calculated by scoring the rankings as a meet. We scored 12 deep for individuals and 12 deep for relays. For example, for individuals 1st place received 12 points for their team, on down to 1 point for 12th place.

Bailey Willett Signs her NLI with Georgia Southern Bruce Taylor Feb 13, 2014

Bailey Willett of Blessed Trinity High School has signed her national letter of intent to run Track and Field for Georgia Southern University. Bailey has been state champion in the 400m (2012). She was apart of the team cross country state winning team(2013).

3A- Blessed Trinity Shocks St.Pius, Jenna Gearing Defends Title Bruce Taylor Nov 9, 2013

What a magnificent race Blessed Trinity's girls had as they had taken it on the chin all season from region 6 rival and defending 2012 champ St.Pius and brought it when it mattered most with the first major upset of the day seizing the AAA title. Jenna Gearing was too strong for anyone after the first loop winning the AAA girls individual in 19:29 leading White County to a 3rd place Podium spot holding pace the entire race.

3A- St. Pius Boys Fend off Feisty North Hall, Austin Sprague Flawless Bruce Taylor Nov 9, 2013

St.Pius X made it 3 titles straight under young coach Ryan McClay scoring 26 points fighting off a strong team effort by North Hall with 46 points. The Lions entire top 5 placed in the top 9 spots eating up the firm turf. Austin Sprague was the overall champ  in 16:08 and was never challenged after the first mile creating a gap of up to 200 meters over Blessed Trinity's Matt Munns who placed 2nd in 16:39.

GHSA Girls AAA State Preview Sam Borg Nov 7, 2013

The AAA Girls of course will follow the Boys race and conditions at the bottom half of the hour will warm a few degrees as the sun rises over the trees, with the wind beginning to pickup to 7mph. Will Blessed Trinity push St.Pius X? Can anyone challenge Jenna Gearing of White County?

GHSA Boys AAA State Preview Sam Borg Nov 7, 2013

The State meet will kickoff at 7:45am with the very competitve AAA boys race with power programs like St.Pius X, North Hall and Woodward. Its projected to be almost perfect conditions, Partly Cloudy at 40 degrees, with a ESE wind at 5mph. Expect to see alot of long sleeves..and some serious racing down the finishing hill for team points.

St. Pius X Sweeps Region 6-AAA, Sprague Flawless, Crawford Top Female Bruce Taylor Oct 31, 2013

There's a definite gap between St.Pius X and the rest of AAA. With a strong argument to back that with today's performance at Region 6-AAA.  Their top ranked girls dominated Blessed Trinity taking the team title with 22 points. Austin Sprague was flawless as usual turning in a 15:01, and Margaret Crawford has emerged as a contender for the AAA individual title.

Ga.MileSplit Week 8 Runners of the Week Bruce Taylor Oct 15, 2013

Kevin Mills is no stranger to being selected as a Runner of the Week, both All-Class and 6A. His sterling 14:57 in perfect conditions at the fast Fox Farms layout (boosted by ideal conditions) puts him 9th on the MileSplit National 5K rankings. Tayler Tuttle of Providence Christian held off a valiant test from Savannah Carnahan winning the overall title at Asics/Alexander in 17:32. Like Mills. Tayler is a repeat winner of this honor.

GHSA Class 2A,3A,4A,5A,6A XC State Championship Previews Georgia Ranking Committee Nov 7, 2012

This season, the course at Carrollton has ran slower, and may have been lengthened a few meters which should favor the 'strength' runners. At press-time, it has been discussed that mats may possibly be covering the many pavement crossings which has been a sore subject for XC purists as the growth of Carollton Schools has stirred the pot enough for a few schools willing to loan the mats they have to cover the pavement. This article will include 2A thru 6A State Previews only. The weather for raceday looks very promising at this time and bodes well for fast times  http://www.weather.com/weather/wxdetail3/USGA0096  6A...we have been saving the Best for Last, and here it is from Ga.MileSplit.com,  thanks to Pre1962 as expounds his unique and detailed breakdown for the Community....Ga.MileSplit.com and GATFXC would like to thank all the Rankers and Runner of the Week Committee members for the tough, time consuming efforts put forth this season to rank each class along with  contributing  articles and selections. This often is a thankless endeavor, as the Community is eager to differ on selections. We care about the kids, programs, coaches, fans and parents who support the programs and athletes. Good Luck to everyone in Carrollton and once again congrats to the Class A Winners, Podium teams, All-State individuals and volunteers that made it happen!

Hot Day on the Track in Albany as 5 Champions Emerge Bruce Taylor May 5, 2012

Therrell girls tie Blessed Trinity for team title in 5-AAA! Jim Yike Apr 24, 2006

Despite not scoring in the 100m, 200m, or 400m, Blessed Trinity found a way to do what some might have thought impossible. In the latest team rankings, Therrell rated a number 3 state ranking while Blessed Trinity came in tied for 21st. After Brittany Long\'s amazing 100-200 double in 11.67 and 23.96, things appeared to be going Therrells way. A lot of attention was paid to the 300m hurdle race in 5-AAA but little did anyone know that it would play such a big part in the team title picture. Caroline Vaughn needed a big race in order to qualify for state, matched up against the powerful Jasmine Dacus of Westlake and Quaneshia Cleckley, of Therrell. These three young ladies represent the best in long hurdles in the state of Georgia and they did not disappoint on Monday night.
