Chambers breaks US Freshman all time mark at Clemson Indoor

The weight throw is an event that we don\'t see often in Georgia due to the lack of an indoor track season, but that hasn\'t stopped a couple of young ladies from stepping up and accomplishing great things on a national scale while competing unattached during the winter months. This past weekend, at the Clemson Indoor meet, freshman Lauren Chambers from Kell HS broke the all time US freshman class record in the weight throw with a toss of 46\' 1\' 1/2\", besting the former mark of 44\'8\" by Arianna Lugo out of California. The remarkable thing about this is that Chambers completed the feat while competing against college competition and an open field that included the world record holder in the event as well as the top female college thrower! Heady stuff for a freshman in her first major competition.

Not to be outdone, Emily Barnhardt, a senior at Lassiter HS, finished 6th overall in the meet with a throw of 56\'7\" to take the national lead in the event. That mark puts her 3rd all-time in Georgia and 8th all time in USA history. Congratulations ladies on a fantastic effort
