Athens Academy puts together strong field for Saturday

Several top 10 teams will do battle on Saturday at the Athens Academy Invitational. Athens Academy (#3 in A), Athens Christian (#2 in A) , Blessed Trinity (#2 in AAA) , Oconee Co.(#3 in AAA) , Our Lady of Mercy (#4 in A) , St. Pius (#5 in AAAA) and South Forsyth (#9 in AAAAA) are all top 10 ranked teams in their respective divisions on the girls side. On the boys side, Oconee Co. and Blessed Trinity are ranked #2 and #3 in AAA while St. Pius X is ranked #2 in AAAAA. Our Lady of Mercy is ranked #2 in A and Oglethorpe Co. and North Oconee are both ranked in the top 10 in AA, while Hepzibah\'s boys are ranked #7 in AAA.

On the girls side, Jennifer Barb (South Forsyth)i, Whitney Bishoff (Athens Christian) and Carly Souther (Oconee Co.) appear to be the favorites. Barbi has run 19:16 this season and is currently #7 on the GATFXC.com rankings list. Whitney Bishoff and Carly Souther have also posted top 20 times this season running 19:43 and 19:51 respectively. Carla Swart is also one of Georgia\'s top 50 with a 20:11 at the Early Bird Invitational earlier this season.

For the boys, a great team match up between Oconee, Blessed Trinity and St. Pius will also feature some of the states top runners. Rick Scheff, of St. Pius, has the fastest time so far this season with a 16:39. Kirk Carter, of Oconee, and the Lethbridge twins, of Our Lady of Mercy, are also ranked in the top 50 in the state with sub 17 performances this season. Jaryd Wallace and Eric Kellough, of Oconee have also hit the 17 minute barrier this season providing a great midseason matchup for these squads.
