The action on the Track was hot in AAAAAA as Rockdale rolled to the title. Archer had a great meet placing 2nd with 45 points, Mill Creek 3rd with Brookwood and Newton County tied for 4th (pic by Daniel McCauley)
Rockdale County proved that Sectionals can't be taken for granted for a team's chances at the Georgia Olympics. What matters in Jefferson, is who brings it when on the biggest stage. (pic by Daniel McCauley)
We will begin previews of the GA Olympics with Class AAAAAA. I ran a virtual type meet based on Sectionals. Its not as accurate as many with the 3200 race being very slow not reflective of what those guys can run

Speaking with Coach Cage Friday evening before the distance races he felt confident going into Saturday Finals and his Girls delivered amassing 74 points for a 32 point victory margin and an amazing 3-Peat in super tough 6A!
Candace Hill has been a phenom since Middle School, and her 200 Meter 23.05 has the potential of her becoming serious Olympic stuff, perhaps as early as 2016..? Who knows, Allyson Felix take notice..
Oh man...its going down to the wire for the Girls AAAAAA Team title as McEachern and Westlake will face off again down in the bowl of hot and humid Albany at Hugh Mills Stadium. Whoever brings it, will emerge as 6A Champs !!!
Here were your MileSplit 2nd team and 1st Team Elite Performances from last week ending 4-5. Candace Hill ran wild down in Mobile going 11.30 and 23.57!
Hey Track Fans! Check out these pics from the 4th Annual Lions Showcase, Part of our 4th Annual Lions Showcase coverage (via MileSplit)
The weather did not stop 19 schools from competing at the 4th Annual Lions Showcase in SW Atlanta as some hot performances warmed up the crowd in attendance. Ryan Clark, Candace Hill, Kristn Hall and the SW DeKalb/Westlake/Rockdale/Banneker Boys relay squads stole the show with impressive early season performances in conditions less than conducive for Sprinters.
Its shaping up to be a whale of a 2015 Outdoor Season as meets began today. Here's a list of the top Georgia Girls returners to watch out for the next 3 months.
With a flurry of indoor meets available beginning with the KYA HS Indoor Challenge at East Tennessee State on 1/16 here's a list of the top Georgia Boys Indoor 60 Meter best. Lawrence Crawford is the reigning King at 60 Meters with a top time of 6.95 from Last Chance at Birmingham Winter 2014.
With a flurry of indoor meets available beginning with the KYA HS Indoor Challenge at East Tennessee State on 1/16 here's a list of the top Georgia Boys Indoor 55 Meter best. Lawrence Crawford from Rockdale County leads at 6.44
Rockdale County HS won its 1st overall combined Boys and Girls, Newton-Rockdale (NewRock) County Championship since 1996. Dax Willette lead the way for the Rockdale Boys victory on a hilly and difficult Sims Elementary School course, winning in a time of 16:52, over Heritage High School’s Jallah Galimah (17:20), and Rockdale’s 3rd place finisher, Jonathan Butler (18:18). In the girl’s division, Kimola Mcallum placed 1st, in 23:32, pacing the Rockdale County Girls to a runner-up finish, behind Heritage who was led by 9th grader Synia White (2nd in 24:01).
The Winder-Barrow Invite had 12 HS teams and 11 MS/Clubs made the trip to Bramlett Elementary this past Saturday. Archer's Boys and Johns Creek's Girls won the Varsity team races while the Junior Hoyas from Cobb County stole the MS team trophy and Rabun County MS took the Girls hardware back to the mountains. Dax Willette, McKenzie Knudson, Andrew Scott and Katya Bessiere ran to individual titles in the Varsity and MS races. all photos by Dan McCauley
Compared to many meets today the Mercy Campus was about empty by 10:45am as the heat rushed patrons and runners alike to their cars/busses to get cool. The Individual Varsity races were a display of domination by Reilly Friedman and FCA's Emma Grace Hurley. Whitewater's Boys took the team title over a deeper Rockdale Co squad. Mega-school Centennial won the Girls Varsity team race. On a sad note, Helen Williams of AIS is out for the season with stress fracture of the hip.
Candace Hill of Rockdale County is named Gatorade's 'Georgia' Female HS Track Athlete of the Year (via www.gatorade.com)
Shiloh HS won their first Track title on Saturday afternoon clinching their title early behind the legs of speedy Jeremy McDuffie as he won 4 gold medals leading the Generals march to the Podium. The competition was intense for the runnerup team spot as Brookwood (41) and 3rd place Westlake (40.5) and Rockdale County were right in the mix till their last stride in the 4x400m relay. The 400 and 800m races were epic as both events came down to the wire....
Shiloh HS is the pre-meet favorite after winning Region and getting their top scorers out of Sectionals. If they perform as they have all season the Generals could have it clinched before the 4x400m relay. Westlake looks to be a contender and Brookwood's top guns will have them near the top of the leaderboard (electronic) by Friday's end. There are no less than 5 teams with an opportunity to bust into the top 4 including Lovejoy, Grayson, Mill Creek, Rockdale County and Collins Hill.
Super Frosh Candace Hill from Rockdale County HS set the already hot mondo on fire in both the short sprints putting the nation on notice that she's the real thing Saturday afternoon at the GHSA Girls State Championships. First with a 11.44 in the 100 meters and then going 23.21 in the 200 meters taking over the #1 time in the MileSplit National Rankings (wind legal) as I just verified with the Timer. Her 11.44 in the 100 meters puts her with the 3rd best wind legal time currently.
It all comes down to Westlake and McEachern for the 6A state title and Westlake has the upper hand in both relays with multiple teams. We should have a glimpse of how things are shaping up by watching the prelims. Only the top athletes will be able to back down and coast before the finish line ..
The weather was pleasant (finally) for Sectionals this past Saturday. 6A 'B' was held in Tifton Ga, and 6A 'A' was at McEachern and the racing was hot and heavy for both. Surprising the only chatter on the Discussion Board has been very low key. 103 National Elites were achieved in 'A' and currently we have no data for 'B' as of presstime.
For AAAAAA, Robert Dunning scored big for Kennesaw Mtn as he 'Tripled' sweeping the Hurdles in 14.19/38.72 and clearing 6-6 in the HJ. Shanel Burr of North Cobb swept the Hurdles events in 14.03/44.27 making her the woman to beat at Sectionals/State earning her AAAAAA Girls 'Region Athlete of the Week'
Georgia was very well represented at the Mobile Challenge of Champions as a pair of Fabulous Frosh including Carson Dingler of First Presbyterian Day School (Macon) and Candace Hill from Rockdale County made their presence on the National scene with their outstanding performances. Overall 23 MileSplit National Silver Elite standards were met!
6A Girls had quite a week themselves with 2 athletes being selected as the co- 6A Girls 'Athletes of the Week. Candace Hill (super frosh) from Rockdale County and Akua Obeng-Akrofi of Archer HS. These 2 are heading into an ultimate showdown down in Albany in the 100 and 200 meter dashes barring injury.
Shiloh has 5 athletes that are piling up points...and in the crazy web the GHSA weaves upon competition limits they are controlling 6A. It only takes 3-4 National Elite athletes to win a state title down her in Georgia unfortunately as has been proven for decades due to the archaic GHSA rules. Rockdale, Westlake and Collins Hill are packed up together after Shiloh..
Rockdale County is definitely on the map this 2014 Outdoor season after the NewRock County Championships. Candace Hill and Lawrence Crawford were just 'sick' clocking sizzling times in the 100/200 meter dash events for Rockdale County HS! 17 MileSplit National Elite performance standards were met which is unprecedented for this meet. Stay tuned Sports fans...
WOW...It couldn't be any closer in the 6A Boys Team Power Rankings..Westlake and Shiloh actually are within scoring parameters and separated by .5 of a point...6A Giant and defending champ Mill Creek is actually about 20 points behind these teams with North Gwinnett a close 4th. with Rockdale County and Peachtree Ridge lurking in the shadows...These rankings were calculated by scoring the rankings as a meet. We scored 12 deep for individuals and 12 deep for relays. For example, for individuals 1st place received 12 points for their team, on down to 1 point for 12th place.
Beginning with last week's meets from 2-25 thru this past Saturday, Ga.MileSplit will be selecting Track and Field Athletes of the Week. This article includes Class 6A AOWs who all achieved MileSplit National Silver Elite performances. Super-Frosh Candace Hill from Rockdale County HS has been selected as the 6A Girls Athlete of the Week after her amazing early season double in the 100/200 Meters at the Eagle Icebreaker Invitational.
Parkview's new 250K Recortan track was flat out torched today as existing meet records were shattered in the very unseasonably mild weather (but don't hold your breathe as next weekend looks to be much colder again) Parkview once again demonstrated how to run a high volume meet clicking off heat after heat in timely fashion on a 6-lane track.
Rockdale County swept the top 3 places as Dax Willette won the Newton-Rockdale Co. Championships in 17:37 on an extremely difficult and hilly Sims Elementary School course leading Rockdale to the Boys Team Title with 22 points. Willette's teamates Logan Hull was 2nd in 18:22, Jonathan Butler 3rd in 18:30 and Sulaimane Bangura as 5th at 18:53 besting Heritage, Newton, Eastside, Alcovy, & Salem. Heritage-Conyers' girls put their top 5 in first 10 positions winning the girls title with 40 points. Leadin the Patriots was Alexia Wilson placing 2nd in 23:08. Antwonette Thomas of Rockdale won the individual title with a 21:54.
Walton's Tayla Carter crossed the finish line in 11.63 for the top 100m performance of the day Photo by Pinion Photography Athens Christian Makes it a 3-Peat, Walton outlasts MLK in 5A by 1 Point, Redan Sprints and Hurdles away from SW DeKalb in 4A, GAC blows away everyone in AA scoring in just the sprints and relays and Monroe Albany is too deep again adding another title to their padded resume.
