Hard work and discipline were something Grady’s journalism teacher and track coach Del Ellerton learned at an early age. “I grew up initially in Mississippi,” Ellerton said. “We really didn’t have anything. AAAA Girls will hit the State course after 7 races have competed, meaning they could face the worst conditions yet this Fall. Marist is a lock to take the team title unless 3 of their girls somehow do not finish the race.
Region 8-AAAA was brutal last week as several good squads will stay home this weekend.
Only movement from Region Madness was North Oconee moving ahead of White County into 3rd.
No one is gaining any ground on Marist who placed 4th at Coach Wood. Heritage Catoosa and Grady both moved up. North Oconee ran very well at the Clarke Oconee Championships
There was very little movement in 4A from this past week. North Hall avenged their loss to Johnson from the County meet last week besting them @ Coach Wood in the Varsity Gold race. Whitewater, Buford and Eagle's landing were off.
There was no movement in 4A Girls for the top 7 teams...but Johnson (Gainesville) lept into 8th after being unranked placing 2nd at Hall County. Woodward is back in the top 10 after Asics. Watch list (in no order) Buford and Chestatee.
Whitewater ran well as a team winning the Asics meet. Johnson (Gainesville) may have defeated nemesis North Hall for the first time in school history winning the Hall County meet. Buford and Eagle's Landing are back in the top 10 this week. Coach Wood should be a showdown with Marist vs St.Pius X.. Watch list (in no order) Chestatee, Pickens and White Co
A busy week for 4A girls squads despite the nasty weekend. Marist may have had their best race of the season at FSU. St.Pius X was 10th down in Tallahasee with a strong team average of 20:05. Once again the Mountain Invitational played a big part in sorting out this week’s rankings as White County surged up to 3rd this week. North Oconee put it all together at Mtn rising to 4th. Eagle's Landing ran well on their home course at Henry County Championships.
Marist ran very well at FSU besting St.Pius X who went after it early. North Oconee won the Mountain Invitational and are back in the All Class top 10 this week. Whitewater won a diluted Fayette County meet and the Mountain Invitational cleared thing up a little from 4-10.
Conditions were so difficult and the lead group that ran off course really affected some AAAA teams, so they won’t be penalized for that. Basically no change, Whitewater and North Oconee are starting to put it together so that the top of AAAA is starting to look very strong.
Conditions were pretty bad at most meets. No movement at the top in 4A Girls, but Grady re-enters the top 10 after 2nd in small school race at Aubrae Gunderson.
One must see these striking images from the wet and wild Aubrae Gunderson Invitational from the keen eye of Daniel McCauley, for everyone to enjoy !

Not alot going on this week in 4A Boys for the top 7 squads. St. Pius boys ran very well at Hares and Hounds in NC at the revamped Foot Locker course. The gap between 1 and 2 has closed, while the West Hall meet added clarity to places 5-10 (for this week anyway)
Grady and Sandy Creek enter the rankings this week after good showings at Double Dip...Marist and St. Pius won the Championship race at Coach Benson and Carrollton. Whitewater and North Oconee ran partial squads last Saturday. Teams 8-10 were off.

Marist was pushed to the brink in Region 6 by speedy Grady and Banneker, but q'd their State scoring threats. Carrollton trounced their Region 5 opponents in their quest for another state title. Westover took Region 1 over rival Monroe-Albany and Eagle's Landing bested upstart Griffin by 9 points in Region 4.
