4 Squads leap frogged Northview after 'Region Madness. Harrison, Brookwood, Pope and Walton all moved up as well. Will Northview be full strength at Carrollton, that is the Big ?
Very little movement in the Final Class Ranking of the Fall except for Roswell shooting up to 7th after a great race at 5-AAAAAA. Marietta looks unbeatable on 11-7. The 2-4 Podium spots will be wildly contested on what's forecasted to be a beat up, sloppy course in the afternoon.
Coach Wood set things straight (for now) heading into Carrollton Last Chance followed by Region meets! Mill Creek ran great moving back to 2nd. Woodstock won the Sharptop Invitational. Walton is beginning to look like 'Walton' heading into the final 17 days of the 2015 season.
The Nike Fleet Feet Coach Wood meet certainly is responsible for all the movement in the All Class Boys Rankings this week!
Here are this past week's 'Runners of the Week' from each Class.
If one was not at the Nike-Fleet Feet Coach Wood Invitational, you missed some high caliber racing Saturday on an absolutely perfect Fall morning. Most of the top 10 All-Class ranked teams duked it out on the Gainesville College course, which will make ranking teams very easy in a couple of days.
The Nike/Fleet Feet Coach Wood meet is going to shape things up...(Riley Friedman won in 2014) Five of the top 6 teams Varsity were off. Milton won Furman impressively. 4 4A squads remain in the top 10!
Not much movement this week in 6A as most of the 'Big Boys' were resting up for the Coach Wood Invitational which is going to be 'off the chain' and Ga.MileSplit will be onsite! Woodstock leapfrogged county rival Etowah after winning Cherokee County.
The top 8 positions this week have no movement. Walton breaks into the top 10 taking 2nd at Cobb County as well as Harrison who placed 3rd.
Marietta dominated Cobb County without Patterson. FSU sorted out 5 All-Class positions this week with Brookwood remaining #2 after being the top Georgia Boys squad.North Oconee cracks the top 10 after winning at Mountain Invitational.
Racing will be hot Saturday afternoon, but temperatures will be cool and the course could be wet and sloppy. Spectators, you may need to be bussed over from nearby schools. Information will be sent out as soon as possible. Either way it will be a fun day of racing.
No movement in top 7 places All Class. Whitewater moves into the top 10 after winning the Atlanta Classic. Great American may sort some things out next week up top.
There was no movement amongst the top 6 squads from last week with Marietta's Varsity, Brookwood and Mill Creek all off. Milton was the top 6A school at Wingfoot, and Peachtree Ridge & Etowah ran split squads last Saturday. Walton is back on the 'Watch List' after a 17:19 team average at Alligator Lake (FL)

Marietta Boys explode to the top of the All-Class Rankings after traveling to Cary NC and beating MileSplit National #10 Broughton.
Almost completely overlooked in the coverage, Marietta traveled to Cary, NC and at the Wake Med Soccer Complex stole away the team title with one runner in the top 10. Let's hope this gets Marietta some 'National' attention now..
The Week Ending 9/13 All-Class ROWs are Helen Williams of Atlanta International and Carlos Torres from Marietta HS.
Milton sits atop the 6A Boys Rankings after their 2nd place finish at Knights Crossing up in Virginia without Jack Bluth and their #4. Carrollton Orthopedic and Coach Benson DD easily helped sort out the Weekly Rankings with top teams going head to head. Mill Creek was 2nd at Carrollton without Sam Costa (ACT) Brookwood ran their JV, Peachtree Ridge was off. Grayson had a good race winning Covered Bridge. Everyone should be full strength at the Gwinnett County (onsite coverage) and Fulton County Championships next Saturday
Over 1400 runners gathered at the State Course on Saturday having great mid-September racing conditions in very uncrowded race situations for this venue. (excluding Championship Boys) Anticipation was high for those races with many top squads and Indivduals competing.Brief ReCap (more coming Monday)
Okay, Milton is at the top of the Week ending 9-6 All Class rankings. Can they hold it, as Mill Creek and Brookwood both looked very tough early. 4A power squads Marist and St. Pius X follow that 6A group with many wondering where is Khayvonn Benson from Marietta. Let's get the discussions going now on the Board!RANKINGS ADMINISTRATOREdit RankingsEdit Series
Milton is #1 in 6A Boys in the first set of Weekly Rankings. Brookwood showed at at&t Panther they have definitely reloaded. Several teams in the top 10 who went unranked in pre-season

Here is a list of your top 100 6A Boys Returners from 2014 calculated by their fastest time...which as we know can be deceiving with the variety of courses competed on. Davis Stockwell is the defending 6A Champ at 15:37.
While 6A lost some talent at the top, a surprising amount of prominent athletes on the 6A circuit return for the 2015 campaign. Based on those returners, I’ve devised the following pre-season rankings heading into this season along with a couple highlights of those returners. NOTE: These are NOT State predictions which often weigh state meet history and other intangibles into play. This is my attempt to best make sense of the top returning teams without merely looking at a virtual meet.

We will begin previews of the GA Olympics with Class AAAAAA. I ran a virtual type meet based on Sectionals. Its not as accurate as many with the 3200 race being very slow not reflective of what those guys can run
Speaking with Coach Cage Friday evening before the distance races he felt confident going into Saturday Finals and his Girls delivered amassing 74 points for a 32 point victory margin and an amazing 3-Peat in super tough 6A!
There was no doubt this was going to be a memorable race Thursday evening. 5-6 girls with seed times hovering around 5:00...and Junior Lindsay Billings who destroyed a great field by nearly 60 meters going 4:50.83....
Oh man...its going down to the wire for the Girls AAAAAA Team title as McEachern and Westlake will face off again down in the bowl of hot and humid Albany at Hugh Mills Stadium. Whoever brings it, will emerge as 6A Champs !!!
Mary Jeanne Assinzo signing her National Letter of Intent to run cross county & track at Jacksonville University on a full scholarship.
Here is a mid-season Team Power Ranking for 6A Boys thru 4-1 meets. McEachern currently tops the list with 79 points. Some manual edits were made with athletes in too many events. McEachern and Westlake lead big time.......
It was a lean week in Georgia for Outdoor Track with the frigid Artic blast cancelling all meets Tues-Fri and the Big Orange Relays. Here were your top 20 Girls performances by event for last week.
Georgia may have had overall, the most successful NXN Regional in history. 2 Athletes qualified as Individuals including Marist's Morgan Ilse and Galloway's Reilly Friedman. Also congrats to Marietta and Marist for their 5th place team finishes in the deepest year ever in the NXN Southeast Regional.
Everyone was still trying to catch their breath after the fast and furious action of the 6A Boys championship race when the 6A ladies began to gather at the start line and form up stretching, doing the obligatory runouts, then huddling together (some with'some without their coaches) having final moments together getting charged up or praying even) As the final calls were made the time had arrived to put it all on the line (for some seniors perhaps their final Cross Country race) Most in the loop expected a team battle between top ranked Region 6 foes Northview, South Forsyth and a red hot Milton squad or to observe another work of art by Lindsay Billings. Sometimes one gets what they hope for, a great team battle and watching one of the state's best hopes for a Foot Locker National finalist.
You had to be there and watch the setting and atmosphere change as 4A began to race and the 6A schools and their rabid fans begin to arrive and populate the surrounding start/finish area and line both sides of the big hill below the school on top. The buzz could be felt in the air as the 6A Boys headed towards the start line and warmed up, doing runouts waiting for some sloooow AA girls to finish their stroll. Tension and anticipation mounted as squads toed the line and thousands of their faithful fans, jv runners roared as the race began...Marietta went to work taking care of business and no fewer than 10 guys mixed it up within 25 meters of each other till the end as Davis Stockwell emerged victorious...
6A Boys Team: Marietta. The entire season (and really even during last track season), the whole state has been watching this team. They’ve gone undefeated versus all GA competition and only have a blemish on their record vs. a now #11 nationally ranked La Salle squad (source: DyeStat). They very well could put 3 (more?) in the top 10 in the state’s biggest class, and with a 1-5 split of well under a minute at region, we can expect them to have their 4-5 not far behind. It’s their race to lose. Coach “Black Jack” Coleman will have his guys ready to go. It’ll be exciting to watch.
Region meets last week for 6A teams were quite telling of who the real players are this Saturday in Carrollton. The Boys top 5 are all strong. We can't see anyone pushing Marietta, but the real race is after the show for 2nd thru 4th, and will Miles Yapp be back for Brookwood? South Forsyth's Girls beat Northview at region, can they do it again and beat Milton? Milton's program has been on fire this season...and Collins Hill with their very tight pack at region could make some noise.
Its here! The final week of rankings that don't matter come Saturday when its time to put up or shut up, Our committee needs to thanked for their selfless work put in for doing this. All- Class Rankings will matter after State to some people even though Coach Wood spelled alot of that out. St. Pius and North Oconee's Boys are on course for a heavyweight fight Saturday in 4A. Milton's Girls definitely moved up after their region showing.
The weather was amazing today as the kids in Region 4-6A finally got a break that their weekend counterparts will enjoy on Sat. Lots of great racing happened today at Allatoona Creek park as the runners ran the exact same course as was run on 9/6 at the Cobb Co XC Championships.
Latest Saucony Flo50 Girls Team Rankings as of October 27th.
The Nike-Fleet Coach Wood Invitational produced 5 of the 8 HS Boys for week ending 10-19. Pictured are 5A ROW Christian Bowles and 6A ROW Khayvonn Benson. Reilly Friedman of Galloway was delected as the All-Class 'ROW' after his 1st place effort at Coach Wood in 15:50.
Coach Wood was ahuge meet for Metro 6A's best of the best. Only South Forsyth and West Forsyth did not compete their with South Forsyth off. As the teams that went head to head so should be the rankings....Northview is looking untouchable in 6A if they stay healthy, Milton ran great moving up past Harrison.
The Nike-Fleet Feet Coach Wood Invitational served as a preview into what could happen at the State Meet in less than 3 weeks. Marietta's boys proved once again they are the team to beat with a team average of 16:33 and 1-5 Splt of :33. Milton's 3rd place finish moved them up 2 spots, but they were closely followed by Mill Creek, Brookwood, Etowah and Peachtree Ridge as 23 points separated these 6A giants. Northview's Girls were all over top ranked Marist falling short of an upset by 1 point. Milton and Lovett moved up as well performing well at Coach Wood, though not close to marist and Northview. Dunwoody shot up to 8th after being unranked.
In this article is a picture collage of the top 3 finishers including the Championship, Varsity Gold, Varsity Cardinal and Championship JV races. the cover pic is of Reilly Friedman of Galloway winning the Boys Championship Overall title in 15:50. All Images by Jonathan Speights.
In annually one of the most competitive meets found in the state of Georgia at the Coach Wood Invitational in Gainesville, Northview junior Lindsay Billings lived up to her billing as arguably the best in her state and one of the fastest this fall in the entire Southeast with a dominant 24 second margin of victory over another Georgia best in Morgan Isle (2nd, 18:24) of Marist. Billings crossed the line in a meet record performance of 18 minutes flat.
The Coach Wood invitational (dubbed as the all classification state meet) did not disappoint. There were highly anticipated individual battles, and of 17 of the top 20 All Classification teams toed the line at Gaineseville College on this cool Saturday morning..
Marietta's boys took a well deserved week off after their race at Great American. The big surprises this past week came from the fleet Asics Invitational where North Oconee had their most complete race of the season taking 1st as Harper Sigler rejoined the top 5. South Forsyth also ran like gangbusters moving up to 4th. For the Gals South Forsyth continued to move up as Kaylee Dupont is finding out how good she could be. Westminster's Girls continued to improve moving up the ladder.
It was a beautiful day at Nash Farm Battlefield as 25 teams mixed it up at the Golden Eagle Invitational. West Florida Tech HS invaded from Pensacola FL (9 hr trip) and crossed back into the CST zone with both Varsity team 1st place trophies. Logan Poteet cruised to another win in the VB race and Rebecca Dow of Marietta was strong taking the Girls Overall title. Padeia swept the MS team honors and Overall titles. Meet Director Claud Spinks made several minor tweaks to the Battle of Atlanta course for the Golden Eagle
How All-Class Rankings went reflected how 6A was affected. IMHO, no one gained any ground on Marietta's boys though Mill Creek and Walton ran great. Lakeside DeKalb's boys had a sweet race at Wendys cracking the top 10. Northview's girls were off and attached to a local 5k event. (per their school webpage) Mill Creek's gals were 11th in the ROC at Great American solidfying their #2 ranking. South Forsyth dominated at Mountain moving into 3rd. Etowah's lady Eagles ran well at Wendys slicing into 5th and Marietta's lasses are beginning to sniff Podium possibilities after placing 17th at Great American.
Take a Bottle, Shake it Up...Great American and Wendys (both NC) certainly affected All-Class Rankings this past week as no fewer than 6 Girls teams and 7 Boys teams had movement. Marietta's boys were 5 points away from winning the ROC at Great American and are stirring the pot in the Community as one of the greatest teams in recent GA XC history. Hopefully, they will get some respect Regionally from MileSplit National. Walton's boys catapulted up to 4th after Jesse Owens (AL) Mill Creek continues to improve after their Great American performance cruising to 3rd. Marist faced down tough comp at Great American staying put at #1. South Forsyth moved to 4th after Mountain Invite, Etowah enjoyed the beef at Wendys re-entering the top 10, and Marietta's girls had a solid race at Great American showing signs of their pre-season potential.
The 6A Boys Rankings for week ending 9-27 remain exactly the same as 9-20, If anything, Marietta's Boys widened the gap after their performance at Darlington. For Girls the top 5 positions remained intact with Northview scorching the turf at Lambert River Run. Harrison moved up to 6th after winning at Gulf Coast Stampede, Walton moved up 3 spots to 7th after placing 3rd at Atlanta Classic.
Here all the Boys All-Class Rankings for Week Ending 9-20. We are trying out another new MileSplit Feature if you will click under the header in the article. let me know if the Rankings spreadsheet displays. Marietta stays on top after dominating at Darlington. No movement in top 5 (alot of squads were off or ran their JV) Top 5 Girls teams remain unchanged, South Forsyth won at McCallie moving into 6th, Harrison moved up 2 spots after a win down at Gulf Coast, Heritage-Catoosa breaks into the top 10 after besting Westminster and Walton at Atlanta Classic. Great American could shake things up next week..
The morning was ideal for some fast racing at the Darlington school with temperatures in the low 70’s and skies overcast. Logan Poteet remained untouchable. Marietta's Boys were dominant and aggressive, blowing away the field. Darlington's Girls spanked the competition, including defending 2A champ Wesleyan. Mary Jeanne Assinzo of Marietta won the Girls Overall title.
33 High School and 31 Middle School squads will line it up Saturday morning on the campus of Darlington to do battle at the 11th Annual Darlington CC Festival. The festival was the brainchild of departed Coach (to Germany) Alan Parrish and this season Coach Katie Ellis is at the comm. Marietta and Etowah look to be running at full strength as well as a few other ranked teams in their respective classes. Quite a 2A showdown will be settled as Darlington and Wesleyan tangle at full strength...Mill Creek is running their JV squad after a great meet at Gwinnett County last week.
Here all the Boys All-Class Rankings for Week Ending 9-20. We are trying out another new MileSplit Feature if you will click under the header in the article. let me know if the Rankings spreadsheet displays. Marietta stays on top, Brookwood moves up to 3 after Gwinnett, St.Pius X to 2nd after Hare n' Hounds. Northview may be closing the gap on Marist in Girls All-Class. Mill Creek and Brookwood both shot up the ladder after impressive performances at Gwinnett County.
By the most excellent spreadsheet compiled by your 6A Ranker, its easy to reason why teams moved up or down this week. Our All Class/6A rankers collaborate before releasing Weekly rankings to be as objective as possible (much like the AJC, rofl) Marietta Boys, Northview Girls are rock steady at #1 again. Teams moving up All-Class, did the same in 6A. Milton had a great week as some forecasted they would rise up and be top 5 squads. Mill Creek showed promise of what can be come November...Brookwood, Walton and North Cobb boys enjoyed the week off.
After some serious racing this past weekend movement abounds in the All-Class Rankings. Marietta holds on to the top Boys spot and so far it seems they have a nice gap over the challengers. Milton rocketed to 2nd after their 3rd place showing at Knight's Crossing in Virginia beating some regionally top rated squads. Mill Creek logically moved into 4th from the watch list after finishing 4 points behind Peachtree Ridge at 'Ortho'. 5A Forsyth Central's stock rose dramatically after winning Warpath. The Lady Eagles of Milton, much like their Boys squad ran well in Virginia rising 5 rungs to 3rd. Landmark Christian may have found their much needed 5th runner at 'Ortho' placing 4th besting a few 6A top 10 teams along the way. Mill Creek moved up to 8th from the 'Watch List' and Westminster's vaunted Girls showed promise placing 8th at 'Ortho'. Marist and Northview have the makings of a nice showdown hopefully down the road
The Week Ending 6A 'Runners of the Week' came from the Carrollton Orthopedic meet and the fast Warpath Invitational. Selected athletes are Etowah's Kingsley Green and Marietta's Khayvonn Benson (pictured above)
69 schools competed at the rejuvenated Carrollton Orthopedic Invitaional from as far south (or more) as Melbourne Florida. Some incredible racing occured, but Ga.MileSplit was unable to be onsite for this event and reports as to what transpired have been non-existent on the Discussion Board. A few things are certain, Lindsay Billings ran great winning the Championship Girls Overall title and Leon County (FL) Sukhi Khosla was untouchable as he dominated with a season best time of 15:53.
After maybe having a few less teams attend than in the past, the Carrollton Orthopedic Invitational is 67 HS teams strong again and should have over 2000 runners registered for action Saturday. Many of the top programs in Georgia will run their entire squads and a few will hold out their top runners for another day... The Sunshine State has arguably three of the best boys teams in the state, two of the best girls teams in the state , the top freshman in the state on the girls side, and a potential foot locker finalist in Sukhi Khosla on the boys side lacing it up with our state's student-athletes. Its a star studded event that could turn into a barnburner depending on what teams from Ga choose to run in the Championship race....
Marietta's Boys stand pat, just like All-Class. Peachtree Ridge moves into 2nd after winning at Spurs & Spikes Invite with a 16:30 team average. Etowah and West Forsyth are 3rd/4th this week after a battle at Double Dip. Milton Boys moved up 2 spots to 5th after their win at Covered Bridge. Northview's Girls rocketed to the top of 6A Girls after winning handily at Covered Bridge with a 20:00 team average. South Forsyth rises to 3rd after Double Dip.
This week's All-Class Rankings have Marietta again at the top after a dominant performance at Cobb County. Etowah's boys cracked the top 10 moving up to 4th while Brookwood dropped 6 spots after Covered Bridge. Marist's and Northview's Girls rightfully moved to the top of the All-Class Girls rankings after their performances at Double Dip and Covered Bridge.
It was lights out at the Cobb County Championships with a tight Varsity Girls team race with Marietta sliding by Harrison and Walton for the title. Ashley Kehoe built on her win last week following with another overall title. Marietta's boys continued to steamroll the competition while Kell's Logan Poteet was unchallenged.
All-Class Rankings are perhaps the most difficult to gauge every Fall as many schools may only go head to head once or twice with Nike-Fleet Feet the final realistic indicator as most top squads use Last Chance as a tempo run and let all their JVs get a taste of the State course. 6A schools rule the roost this week with Marietta's boys strong at Saucony Battle of Atlanta and West Forsyth's Girls having a great run at the Stage Races.
In the first edition of the GHSA Class Team Rankings (we have always let at least 2 full weekends of racing before ranking) Marietta's Boys should come as no surprise on top after blowing away even 4A North Oconee by nearly 80 points. West Forsyth's girls may be a bit of a surprise as #1 after their winning performance at the Stage Races.

Marietta has become one of the top HS Cross Country programs in Georgia and the Blue Devils proved their top 6A 'Pre-Season' Rankings sweeping the varsity team titles Saturday at Nash Farm Battlefield. It was a great day of racing including Landmark Christian's Kathryn Foreman once again running 'on her own island' dominating the Varsity Girls race and North OC's Tyler Jones coming into his own taking the Varsity Boys overall win. MD Claude Spinks starts a horde of anxious MS Boys at beautiful Nash Farm Battlefield
Here is a list of the top 50 returning 6A Boys by fastest times from 2013 Cross Country. Miles Yapp from Brookwood could be the man to beat come November at Carrollton.
These are subjective rankings (not computer generated); they take into account returning team rankings, team rankings in the 1600 and 3200 from outdoor track, and a school's "Improvement Rating." Improvement Rating is a metric developed by researching the improvement in a team's final place at State from 2011-2013. Each category is given rank points and added up coming to a final point total. Marietta's Girls have come a long way since 2011 with talent and solid coaching and look to contend for a title this season.
With the Cross Country season set to take off next Saturday with many large invitationals including NEGA, Bob Blastow, Mercy Invite, Mid-State, Pickens Preview and the Peachtree Ridge-Walton Stage Races this begins a series of articles on the top teams in each class. These are subjective rankings (not computer generated); they take into account returning team rankings, team rankings in the 1600 and 3200 from outdoor track, and a school's "Improvement Rating." Nyasiah Mercado from Marietta HS signed her NLI to compete for Shorter University in the mid-distance events.

It all comes down to Westlake and McEachern for the 6A state title and Westlake has the upper hand in both relays with multiple teams. We should have a glimpse of how things are shaping up by watching the prelims. Only the top athletes will be able to back down and coast before the finish line ..
McEachern and Westlake are going to have a showdown in Albany in 5 weeks....and now Marietta is a challenger to both in 6A Girls.. Grayson is a distant, but strong 4th currently.
McEachern's Girls actually have a very slim lead (as they are top heavy in the Sprints) over rivals Marietta and super speedy Westlake. What will transpire between now and Regions will prove quite interesting..stay tuned.
The 6A Boys have began to produce great times and marks every week and this past week was no exception. Cobb County and the Flowery Branch Invite provided much of the fireworks. Robert Dunning from Kennesaw Mtn. HS was selected as overall 'AOW' after his performances in the 110 and 300 Hurdles at the Cobb County Championships.
In the infamous words of Oscar Winner Matthew McConaughay, "Alright, Alright, Alright.." McEachern is a little heavy on points in the Individual Sprints (around 20-25) keeping Westlake actually at the top of the 6A Girls Team Power Rankings. Your gonna have to be in Albany the 2nd week of May to see how this ultimately shakes out. Archer is in 3rd place thanks to their Throws and Relays with Grayson, Campbell, Marietta, Parkview and Etowah bunched together all in contention for GHSA Team Awards down in Albany. These rankings were calculated by scoring the rankings as a meet. We scored 12 deep for individuals and 12 deep for relays. For example, for individuals 1st place received 12 points for their team, on down to 1 point for 12th place.
We will begin posting "Highlights of the Day" for those weekdays that are 'high volume' with many meets. Check Tuesday thru Fridays for these around noon the following day as some meets don't report until the next day.
Round 4 of the heavyweight 6A programs Brookwood and Peachtree Ridge didn't disapoint. The anticipation built as results were compiled with Peachtree Ridge's depth making the difference for a 12 point margin of victory. Soph Avery Bussjager of Walton HS won her first 6A state title in 19:04.
Never doubt that Coach Dehnke's Brookwood squad isn't going to bring it at State. The Broncos have bounced up and down in the rankings all season, but on the biggest stage ran well enough to take the AAAAAA title with 101 points. Closest team race in history as 28 points separated 1-5. Back in 2007 only 21 points separated 1-5! Fun to watch...Kevin Mills was a man among boys running tall to his first state title.
This may be the only race with a clear favorite, oh wait, favorites. Peachtree Ridge and Brookwood have been the top two teams all season. Currently, Peachtree Ridge has a 2 to 1 advantage head to head, but by a combined 3 points margin of victory. If either or both the Lady Lions and Lady Broncos don’t have a good day, their lie some Lady Hoyas and Lady Blue Devils ready to pounce.
2013 is a year of parity for the largest classification in Georgia Cross Country. Both in team and individual races, there are no clear favorites in the way that has become the custom in recent years. Coaches will be busy doing quick scores in anticipation of the team outcome, even shooting video of the finish. This will be race for the ages..
Marietta girls go 1-2-3 led by Mary Jeane Assinzo's 18:51. Early leader Rachel Mendoza from Kennesaw Mtn was able to hang on clinch an individual berth to Carrollton. But Harrison was able to place 7 in the top 14 runners to edge Mar by 5 points. Alex Dunlap took command of the Varsity boys race and led from the gun finishing with a blistering 15:41 The VB team results were almost a carbon copy of the Cobb Co Championship meet earlier this month. Marietta was really strong on the Allatoona Creek Park (CCCP) course again. Marietta placed every scroing postion in front of Harrison's scorers, winning 32 -44
Coach Wood is a great prep for State in 20 days Crowded, a very talented field of teams. The event was very well-organized by the Mill Creek staff. Some reported that the grass felt "wet & thick" (even though it was mowed). The intensity in the Championship Varsity races was palpable..and the venue had a pulse of its own with an enthusiastic crowd in attendance. In the race everyone had been gearing up for weeks, the Coach Wood Invitational made the tea leaves a bit easier to read after another great event hosted by Mill Creek. Has Harrison been sandbagging this season? (A Golf term for cleverly holding back, not displaying one's true prowess, to strike when the time is right and leave your playing partner bewildered at your newly found skills) Marist's Girls proved they are the best in Georgia, as did both their Middle School teams earlier today in Cochran. Did anyone catch Michael Thurston's mad final 300 meters in an attempt to catch Austin Sprague? Coach Wood at Gainesville may be the true 'meausuring stick' in this State, especially a couple weeks or less before Regions...
It was a hot day at Allatoona Park (Cobb County Corps Properties) that turned an always close meet into a war of attrition. With temps in the mid-80s, limited shade, and some tall grass in areas, it wouldn’t appear to be a chance for many PRs, but we saw some very tough competition and some relatively fast times. In the end, Marietta proved to be the dominate team on both the boys and girls sides.
This season, the course at Carrollton has ran slower, and may have been lengthened a few meters which should favor the 'strength' runners. At press-time, it has been discussed that mats may possibly be covering the many pavement crossings which has been a sore subject for XC purists as the growth of Carollton Schools has stirred the pot enough for a few schools willing to loan the mats they have to cover the pavement. This article will include 2A thru 6A State Previews only. The weather for raceday looks very promising at this time and bodes well for fast times http://www.weather.com/weather/wxdetail3/USGA0096 6A...we have been saving the Best for Last, and here it is from Ga.MileSplit.com, thanks to Pre1962 as expounds his unique and detailed breakdown for the Community....Ga.MileSplit.com and GATFXC would like to thank all the Rankers and Runner of the Week Committee members for the tough, time consuming efforts put forth this season to rank each class along with contributing articles and selections. This often is a thankless endeavor, as the Community is eager to differ on selections. We care about the kids, programs, coaches, fans and parents who support the programs and athletes. Good Luck to everyone in Carrollton and once again congrats to the Class A Winners, Podium teams, All-State individuals and volunteers that made it happen!
The Berry Clara Bowl Invite once again robbed most of the attention this weekend with over 2000 runners and many ranked teams. Here are some briefs on the 4 Major HS meets held this past weekend including the Mountain Eagle Invite(cover pic)
We just wrapped up the start of the most exciting 22 days in Ohio High School Cross Country. Let's take a look back at the conference meets. Also check out which boys team wore pink to race in this weekend.
Weekly High School X-Country Regional Rankings 2008 Team rankings by Marc Bloom and Rich Gonzalez Individuals-To-Watch lists by national and state correspondents.
Marietta posts two big wins at the Warrior Invitational. Boys post 130 point win over 2nd place Dalton while the girls post a 61 point win over 2nd place NW Whitfield.
