The GISA had their State Cross Country meet this past Saturday at the Darton College course (adjacent to the Westover course) in Albany. MileSplit was onsite catching the action from Jeremy Danzie's eye.
It was a great day of racing way down in Albany at Darton State College for the GISA State Cross Country Championships. The morning started out with temperatures in the high 40s, but as soon as the sun came up the temperatures warmed up quickly. The AAA boys team title was up for grabs as Southland and Trinity Christian Dublin had their 'Rubber Match' after going head to head thrice with TCD. Deerfield did a great job hosting the meet. Results were posted almost as soon as the last runner finished. Deerfield did a great job hosting the meet. Jason Potter, a Deerfield Windsor parent, was responsible for the course set up and finish chute doing a great job. Results were posted almost as soon as the last runner finished.
It was quite a dual between Ruthie Powell of The Heritage School and tiny Jodie Holodak of Augusta Prep for over 2 miles as ran as if attached to the hip before the street crossing before Powell began to slowly power away on the long hill taking the Individial state title posting the top Girls time of the meet in 19:43 has Mount De Sales been hiding this season? The Cavaliers fended off higher ranked teams capturing the AAA Girls team championship.
The AAA girls team competition should be extremely competitive, with three teams near the top all season: Mt de Sales, Stratford (who is the defending champ), and Holy Spirit Prep of Atlanta. I would not count out The Weber School, Augusta Prep and Westminster Augusta. In the AAA girls competition, Ruthie Powell from Heritage should be the heavy favorite. Deerfield's Virginia Moore and Mt. De Sales' Jessy Tallent also have run very well of late.
Wow, what a day of great racing this Saturday down in Cochran at the 7th Annual Georgia State Middle School State Championships! The meet was flawlessly ran by Coach Shelley Cranford's Running Royals and all the races ran on time as well. The attendance was visibly the largest and loudest ever as well. 4 Team Champs were crowned including 4 well deserving Individual Champions. The races were equally competitive in the Large and Small School divisions individually and teamwise as runners frantically battled for places all over the course and especially up the short straight final uphill stretch. Georgia HS Cross Country's future stars strutted their stuff in front of a large, loud and spirited crowd of proud parents, fans and teamates.
