Coach Wood really shook up the 6A Girls Team Rankings as every team in the top 10 moved either up or down. South Forsyth may be slowly closing the gap back on Northview heading into Region. Etowah ran great moving up 3 spots after their performance at Coach Wood. North Paulding tore it up bbreaking bad into 9th. *All teams designated 11th are in no particular order*
South Forsyth ran LIGHTS OUT at Coach Wood, their #3-5 runners really stepped up to finish 2nd behind Northview. West Forsyth was off this week and stay in the top 10. North Paulding jumps into the watch list after a strong performance at Coach Wood finishing 11th.
A surprising amount of prominent athletes on the 6A circuit return for the 2015 campaign. Based on those returners, I’ve devised the following pre-season rankings heading into this season along with a couple highlights of those returners. NOTE: These are NOT State predictions which often weigh state meet history and other intangibles into play. This is my attempt to best make sense of the top returning teams without merely looking at a virtual meet.

Day 1 of the2014 Georgia Olympics had some outstanding performances achieved by athletes from all classes. It was definitely 'Hot as Georgia Asphalt' in Jefferson earlier today, confounding climatologists statewide as it seemed weatherwise we all were down in Albany without the gnats, lol. Daniel Haugh from St.Pius X thrilled the fans and his fellow throwers alike winning the 3A Discus with his 1st attempt in 194-5. Better late, than never, here are the AAAAA Region 'Athletes of the Week'. Breshhawrd Cooper elevated the Jaguars to the Region 8 team title by sweeping the 200/400 Finals clocking a 21.96/49. Cooper also was a key leg on both winning Cedar Shoals' relay teams. Tiffany Flynn is no stranger to being selected as an 'AOW' and her 'Triple' helped drive Miller Grove to the team title in Region 5. Flynn owned the horizontal jumps going 40-1/19-0 then she ripped out a 14.30 in the Finals of the 100 Hurdles.
Beginning with last week's meets from 2-25 thru this past Saturday, Ga.MileSplit will be selecting Track and Field Athletes of the Week. This article includes Class 5A AOWs who all achieved MileSplit National Silver Elite performances. Seth Whitener of North Paulding HS is the Boys AOW after doubling in the Throws at the Buccaneer Relays.
