Fast Break Challenge - NGXCL Meet #5 2020

Ringgold, GA

Meet Information

Welcome to the official meet page for the Fastbreak Challenge (North Georgia Cross-Country League - Meet #4), hosted by Heritage High School. All *eligible GA and TN teams are invited to register for the race, which will be held on October 8, 2020, on the Heritage High School campus.

*Please be aware that, per GHSA regulations, no unaffiliated teams will be allowed to register for league races. Schools must be members of the GHSA, GISA, TSSAA. or an equivalent organization in order to participate.

Race Location: 3960 Poplar Springs Rd., Ringgold, GA 30736

Course:
The XC course at Heritage High School is extremely spectator-friendly. Parents and coaches can see their runners at least five times throughout the race, with little to no walking. Mile and meter markers are provided and coaches timing areas are easily accessible and within walking distance of one another. The well-maintained, two-loop course incorporates mostly natural running surfaces, with two road crossings. A brick starting line, three hills (of varying intensity), two wooded areas, and creek views make for a very dynamic and enjoyable course. A lot of time, effort, and expense went into the design and construction of the course, and we've received nothing but positive feedback.

CHIP TIMING (RFID chips embedded in bibs) will be provided by Carpet Capital Running Club.

Race Times: Note that race times differ from other league meets. Varsity races are scheduled first, in order to allow time for us to calculate league awards. We must also start earlier, in order to have enough daylight for the awards ceremony.

5:00 - Varsity Boys

5:30 - Varsity Girls

6:00 - JV Boys

6:10 - JV Girls

Awards:

Medals will be awarded to the top-10 athletes in each varsity

race. The top-5 JV boys and top-5 JV boys will receive medals as well. JV medals will be distributed in the chute.

IMPORTANT: Varsity medals, Fastbreak plaques, and league awards will be distributed after the JV races conclude.    League awards will be given for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place varsity teams and the top-20 individual finishers overall.  Placement for league awards will be based on the top-3 finishes, so teams and individuals must participate in at least 3 league races to qualify.  Please do your best to ensure that your team adheres to social distancing guidelines during the awards ceremony. Facemasks are HIGHLY recommended!

Entry Fees:

The entry fee for the high school division is $2 per athlete if received before September 4th. If payment is received after the registration deadline, there will be a $20 late fee.

Covid-19 Precautions: All NGXCL races will adhere to the following GHSA guidelines (Please

read carefully and discuss with your athletes)

        Social distancing of at

least 6 feet should be maintained at all times by athletes, coaches, and

spectators. No hugging, shaking hands, or fist bumps for support/encouragement.

        NGXCL will increase the

number of races in an effort to reduce race size. This will be done by

separating the JV race by gender.

        IMPORTANT - Each athlete

should have their own personal water bottle without sharing. WATER WILL NOT BE

PROVIDED AT THE FINISH LINE (except in emergency situations).  This

season, it is the coach's responsibility to provide water for his or her athletes.

        All NGXCL courses will

be at least 6' wide at their narrowest point.

        Hand sanitizer stations

will be made available at each NGXCL race.

        Host schools shall

enforce social distancing requirements in spectator areas and facility

entrances. Signs will be posted at the registration table and other areas. In

addition, verbal reminders will be made at the beginning of each race.

        Chip timing will be used

in order to reduce the amount of contact between athletes and race officials

and limit congestion at the finish line.

        Per GHSA guidelines,

coaches are responsible for ensuring the health of their team by taking each

athlete's temperature and asking the following screening questions prior to

competition. If an athlete's temperature exceeds 100.3 or if he or she answers

yes to any of the screening questions listed below, then that athlete may not

participate in the race and should be sent home immediately.  In addition,

please inform race officials if an athlete exhibits symptoms before or during

the competition.

        PRE-RACE SCREENING

QUESTIONS:  Do you or have you had a fever in the last week? Have you been

diagnosed with COVID 19? Have you been in contact with anyone diagnosed with

COVID 19? Have you traveled to a "hot spot" for COVID 19?

        A pre-contest meeting

will be held before each league meet and will be limited to one coach per team.

Safety protocols will be reiterated and coaches will be asked about the health

of their athletes.  Coaches will be asked if anyone on their team is

running a *fever or if anyone answered yes to the pre-race screening

questions.  * Each coach is encouraged to have their own temporal

thermometer, but one will be available at the First-Aid tent.

        There will be no

concessions offered this year at NGXCL meet.

        Medical personnel, sport

medicine trainers, or designated coaches will be available at each meet to

monitor medical issues.  This individual will be stationed at the

First-Aid tent, which will be located near the finish line.  If there is a

medical issue, only those individuals should attend to the issue, as to limit

the number of personnel involved.

        Any towels or clothing

should not be shared between athletes.

        Cloth face coverings are

permitted and recommended, especially indoors or when social distancing is not

possible.

Again, it is the job of

coaches to make sure that athletes are free from illness before being allowed

to participate.  If there is a doubt, err on the side of caution and have

the athlete stay home.

Facilities: Restrooms will be available at the main entrance to the school and at the field house (located next to the softball field). Please remind your athletes to be respectful of the facilities. Spikes should NOT be worn inside the school building.

Concessions:Food and drinks will be available.

Admission:
We will charge $3 for each personal vehicle (buses excluded).

Parking:Parking for spectators is available at Heritage High School. There will be signs and volunteers to direct you. All buses will be directed to a designated unloading and parking area. Overflow parking will be available at Heritage Middle School.

Team tents should be set up in the village green area, which is located near the main entrance of the school.

Entrance Closure: Heritage High has two entrances. One is located off of Poplar Springs Rd. (across from the middle school) and will be open until 4:15 P.M. Due to safety concerns, the Poplar Springs entrance will then be closed to incoming and outgoing traffic. The other entrance is located off of Post Oak Rd., which intersects Poplar Springs Rd. This entrance will remain open during the entire event. All buses should enter at the Post Oak Rd. entrance, even if arriving early. Parking attendants will guide drivers to the unloading and bus parking area.

Safety:There will be a first-aid tent at each league meet. The tent will be staffed by an EMT who will be prepared to respond to medical emergencies. An AED will be located at the tent as well.
