Ellie Spears of Grady and Ethan Curnow of North Atlanta took the girls and boys races during the APS Cross County Series 2 Meet at Grant Park on September 11. Running a time of 23:30.5 over the challenging course, Spears was first to each mile of the race. Her teammates Emilia Weinrobe, Marisa Lopata and Zoe Chan took the next three spots over a field of 43 girls. Elanor Finlayson of Maynard Jackson, who won the first APS Cross Country Series Meet, was the next girl to finish with 24:41.5.
Curnow ran a steady six minute mile pace to win over 160 boys in 18:47.3. Drew Charters Jayden Causey fought closely for first throughout much of the race, but took second with 18:56.2. North Atlantas Sumner Kirsh was third in 19:06.5.
In team scoring, Grady (22), Maynard Jackson (52) and North Atlanta (63) took the top three girls spots. North Atlanta (46), Grady (48) and Maynard Jackson (72) were the top finishing boys teams.
The next APS meet series event will take place on September 18 at Grant Park.
