We are excited to host the 2nd Annual USATF Georgia HS XC Meet of Champions. The Meet of Champions events (track and field meet in May and cross country meet in November) are a part of USA Track and Field Georgia's Youth TrackTown initiative to showcase the talent and accomplishments of Georgia's youth track and field and cross country athletes and programs. The competition will be run in conjunction with the USATF Georgia Association Junior Olympic Cross Country Championships.

When: Saturday, Nov 11: 8:45am Boys, 9:15am girls 9:45am Awards to follow the girls race.

Where:Heritage Christian Church (Starrs Mill home course)- Large venue, great footing/scenic, spectator friendly

Who is invited:

Cost

  • Teams

    • The top 18-20 boys teams and top 18-20 girls teams in the state of Georgia

    • 1st place team from each of the 8 classifications will automatically get an invitation (8 teams)

    • The Next best 10-12 teams will be invited /selected based on selection criteria created by the 5 Coaches on the selection committee

    • If any of those teams decline, we may extend an invitation to the next highest performing team, we dont necessarily have to have 18-20 teams.

  • Individuals

    • Top 2 Individuals who are not on winning teams across all 8 classifications will get automatic invitations (16 runners)

    • The next best 9-14 individuals not on selected teams will be invited based on selection criteria used by selection committee. Performances will be based on the end of the season performances, not just 1 meet.

    • If any of those individuals decline, we may extend an invitation to the next highest performing individual, butwe dont necessarily have to have 25-30 individuals

  • 150-170 runners on the line for each race: ( 126-140 runners from the top 20 teams + 25-30 individuals who are not on teams)



Awards:Top 10 individuals; Top 3 teams - each member of top 3 teams - get Meet of Champions medal

All athletes invited and who race will receive a TBD

How:

  • Teams must compete as Club teams;these do not need to be official USATF clubs; They do not compete for their high school

  • Teams must be from the same high schools, no all-star teams

  • We will follow GHSA rules regarding post season competition, including athletes will not wear their high school uniforms

  • Teams should try to wear similar uniforms

  • If runners or team want to continue on to run USATF Junior Olympics, they must have a USATF membership & birth verification; note: Nationals are in Tallahassee, FL in 2017

  • No cost to teams nor to individuals, USATF Georgia is covering the cost to promote this meet.Georgia XC Meet of Champions - November 11, 2017

    USATF-GA Junior Olympic XC Championships

    Where:

    Who:

    Teams Top 20 boys teams and top 20 girls teams in State of Georgia invited by the selection committee

    Up to 10 runners on each team (new in 2017)1st place team from A, 2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A, 7A and Private A get automatic invitation, (8 teams)

    The next best 10-12 teams will be invited based on the following selection criteria: head to head competition, place at State and times.

    The final selection will be made by the 5 Coach Selection committee. Should any of the teams decline an invitation may be extended to the next highest performing team.

    ALL teams will compete as a club team and CAN NOT wear their HS uniform.

    Your club Name can be School Name + Track Club e.g Central High becomes Central Track Club Individuals

    Individual State Champion and Runner ups who are not on teams across all 8 classifications get automatic invitations (16 individuals)

    At Large invitations to the next 10-20 fastest individuals across all classification; times used are towards the end of the season, not only from GHSA meet

    About 200 of the top runners from teams and individuals in each race. Awards: Top 10 individuals will receive medalsTop 3 teams will receive Meet of Champions medal

    All invited athletes will receive an exclusive Meet of Champions t-shirt

    Entry Procedures and timeline:

    Sunday- all new invites and reminder invites go out by email Monday- coaches declare your interest as yes or no by 6pm by sending end an email to donlivingston@bellsouth.net;

    Monday at 7pm, the next wave of invites go out based on the number of declines. It frees up spots.

    Sunday 6am: Meet entries on Milesplit open Thursday at 11am: Entries on Milesplit close



    Entry Procedures:

    Go to Meet of Champions Milesplit Page and use your Milesplit account to enter your team or individuals

    use this passcode: moc2017you can enter an alternate team name other than your high school name. if you dont enter an alternate name, we will default to school name + track club e.g. Central high school becomes Central Track Club



    Logistics and Coaches Packet:

    Parking: There are 2 main lots with paved parking spots with 900 parking spaces There are 2 overflow lots- one gravel and one grass; USATF-GA volunteers will be directing parents into lots

    Note:

    there is a USATF- GA Jr. Olympic Georgia XC Championships immediately after the Meet of Champions.

    Admission for Spectators:

    none - USATF-GA is cover all the facilities usage fee, entry fees, and awards. Thank you!Packet Pick-up: will in front of the Brick Church building, You will get your race number, pins, and shoe chip there.

    Two Tent Areas:

    High School Meet Of Champions: tents and teams will be in the wooded section between the finish line and starting line

    Volunteers will be around to point you in the right direction. set up between the start and finish line This allows high school teams to exit that area without disrupting any of the youth races

    USATF-GA Youth Teams: tents and teams will go parallel to the finish line and basketball courts Open Field for spectators: there are no tents to be set-up in the finish / awards field.

    Bathrooms: Athletes may use the port-o-toilets in the field with the tents.

    The bathrooms at the start line are intended for athletes who are about to start their race and coaches. The buildings are not open to any athlete or spectators.

    Coaches Hospitality: provided by Starrs Mill parents and McIntosh Parents.

    Starting Line:

    The starting area is roped off for coaches and athletes only, please help us keep spectators/parents out of this area as we begin to get ready to start the races.

    Uniforms:

    matching singlet or tops for each team are encourage but not required. Shorts do not need to match.

    Timing:

    We will be using timing chips for the races. The chips need to be handed to the runner that they have been assigned to and placed on their shoe using the zip tie.

    Please remind them to make sure that the zip tie is on correctly and does not simply slip back off.

    If a chip is lost it will cost $20 per chip, the timing company will contact you for the lost chips.

    As they cross the finish line we will have volunteers cutting the chips off and returning them to the timing company.

    If a runner has zipped the tie too tight on their shoe string the workers will cut a shoe string to remove the chip.

    Lastly, if you have runners that did not race, be sure to return those chips to the timing table as well.

    If not returned your team will be assessed $20 per chip.1.

    Results:

    As we receive the results, announcements will be made and they will be posted on the big blue board by the awards area.

    Please check the results as soon as possible so that if any corrections need to be made we can make them early before the awards ceremony.

    Award Ceremony:

    will be held after the final race. No awards will be given out prior to the ceremony. The order of the awards will be the same as the athletes raced in.

    Concessions:

    we will have concessions stands selling beverages and light snacks0.

    Music:

    During the races we may opt to play music and many of your athletes may provide their own music as well. Please talk to the athletes about taking into consideration the loudness, content and subject matter of the music.

    The meet takes place on church property that they are graciously allowing us to use. We are just asking that the music choices show a sense of respect to the church members, the spectators and the neighborhoods that are nearby.

    Starting Box Assignments:

    Teams will be in alphabetical order based on high school team name (copy given out at packet pick-up)

    Individuals will be assigned to boxes next to the teams

    USTAF- GA 15-18 year old age group teams, individual will be assigned boxes next to the individuals
