11th Annual Coach Wood Preview Oct 16, 2013

The 11th Annual Coach Wood Invitational is shaping up to be yet another highly competitive meet. Some dub it the All Class State Meet every year, and this year’s meet certainly appears to be that again. With Nike Elite runner Andrew Wheating (2 time Olympian and 2 time NCAA Outdoor 800m Champion) present, this year’s meet looks to provide quite an atmosphere at the last major invitational of the season for most teams participating.

Hoya Boys Hunker Down at Coach Wood, Marist Girls Fly First Class Again Oct 19, 2013

Coach Wood is a great prep for State in 20 days  Crowded, a very talented field of teams. The event was very well-organized by the Mill Creek staff. Some reported that the grass felt "wet & thick" (even though it was mowed). The intensity in the Championship Varsity races was palpable..and the venue had a pulse of its own with an enthusiastic crowd in attendance. In the race everyone had been gearing up for weeks, the Coach Wood Invitational made the tea leaves a bit easier to read after another great event hosted by Mill Creek. Has Harrison been sandbagging this season? (A Golf term for cleverly holding back, not displaying one's true prowess, to strike when the time is right and leave your playing partner bewildered at your newly found skills) Marist's Girls proved they are the best in Georgia, as did both their Middle School teams earlier today in Cochran. Did anyone catch Michael Thurston's mad final 300 meters in an attempt to catch Austin Sprague? Coach Wood at Gainesville may be the true 'meausuring stick' in this State, especially a couple weeks or less before Regions...

Ga.MileSplit Week 9 Runners of the Week Oct 23, 2013

Austin Sprague is no stranger to being selected as a Runner of the Week, both All-Class and 3A. His win at the prestigous Nike/Fleet Feet Coach Wood Classic in 15:54 holding off hard charging Michael Thurston was sick.. Morgan Ilse from Marist took on some heavy hitters this past weekend from 5A-6A (also at Coach Wood) emerging victorious, posting a 18:49. Ilse will be the favorite in Carrollton 2 weeks away in the 4A race.
