It looks there are a few key events (110H, 800, 1600, 3200, HJ, PV) at this region that will decide who is the favorite team at state. Most of these events feature BW-PV matchups, and the team that secures the most state berths in these six events will likely emerge as the team favorite at state. PV will likely score more points (than BW) at state in other events; consequently, they don't need to secure quite as many of state berths from these events, but they still need several. BW should get at least five berths from these events and probably needs seven to become the team favorite at state. PV should get at least three berths from these events and probably needs six to become the team favorite at state. Any other teams that aspire to win state need to become fans of Berkmar, Grayson and Central Gwinnett. If BW gets six of these berths, PV gets four, and Berkmar/Grayson/CG secure the other two, state could really be exciting!

Just an FYI better look at Peachtree Ridge as the favorite for state Torri Tillman is back in and changes the fortune's for Peachtree Ridge substantially. With Torri in PR is the most likely the favorite for State in 5A.

@robsk044 That would certainly make things very interesting. T. Tillman and J. Brickell could conceivably score 50 points between them. They may not need many more points from the rest of the team.

It's not fair. This kid has competed past four years and just ran in a college meet a few weeks ago. College freshmen who run track should be fast and jump far, but not against high school age kids.

The Region 8-AAAAA Prelims were pretty competitive. Looks like a exciting Wednesday at Grayson.

@xcfan25 The scores are posted.... and as expected, after the field events Parkview is ahead. But, Parkview is a little further ahead than the non-orange folks had hoped. It will tough for Brookwood to repeat as Region 8-AAAAA Champion in 2011, as Parkview has a lot of qualifiers in the finals. Even if Parkview does win an event, they will place and score points. I don’t have time to run the numbers (gotta make a living) for what is expected. Notwithstanding my reluctance to run the numbers, the team scores are as follows: 59 Parkview 30 Dacula 30 Brookwood 27 Central 25 Berkmar 18 Grayson 17 Shiloh 10 South 6 Archer Re: http://ga.milesplit.com/meets/79342/results/156305

It looks like BW and PV split the state qualifying spots in the three key events (1600/HJ/PV) determined so far. Furthermore, BW did not get their thrower qualified. All of this is good news for P. Ridge, who had an almost perfect day yesterday. BW will need to secure both qualifying spots in both the 110H and the 800 if they expect to challenge P. Ridge at state. PV will need to get their sprinters and relays qualified. It would really help either BW/PV (and really hurt the other) if both 3200 spots came from one school.
