no Coach's Invite?
Joined: Sep 2012
If it is true that their will be no Coach's Invite this year (very sad after 18 years of being the best in season meet in the state), is anyone going to step up and host a similar event this year? To me, it is crazy that our best athletes have to travel to Bojangles, Florida Relays or other out of state meets to match up against top level competition (and end up facing off against other top Georgia athletes). If the hosting issues seems to large for one school to handle, it is hard to imagine that participating teams wouldn't pitch in to insure there are plenty of qualified people needed to managed field events and meet operations. Maybe the Atlanta TRACK club would be willing to step up and host a meet the way they have in XC to fill this giant gaping hole in the Georgia 2019 track schedule. Even if the event schedule was cut back so it was only a 1 day event, something that brings the best of the best together is still better than nothing. This gap is something our Coach's Association may be able to help with. If their mission includes Representing coaches, Advocating of high standards and Endorsing excellence then this issue should be right in their wheel house. From strictly a distance POV, I really hate losing the 4X1600M relay for our schedule. Our kids look forward to this as the "super bowl" of distance. Anyone want to add a 4X1600M relay to their mid season invitational schedule and publicize it and try to bring together the best distance squads to go head to head? Ditto 4X800M. There have been a few meets on the schedule historically that are billed as being distance carnivals, but the timing has been difficult for bringing the most competitive races together (either too early when it is cold and kids aren't in the best shape or on Spring break weekends). If no one wants to step up and do a full blown Coach's Invite the same weekend, doesn't anyone want to host a distance carnival?

The Coaches Clinic is next weekend, maybe it can be discussed and planned at that meeting. I am in full agreement and have it on my schedule for our team every year.

We are not sure that the Coaches Invite is gone. Let's give Coach Monk a chance to address it before jumping to conclusions.

@Sgriff2861 We're having the 4 x 1600m relay(and 4 x 800m too) at our St Patrick's Day themed Friday night at our brand-new Track and Field Complex @ Hebron Christian. It's Friday afternoon/evening March 15th if any teams would like to join us. We already have several teams coming but can accommodate a few more. It's being timed by Perfect Timing Group. Unfortunately, due to site restrictions we will be taking a one year hiatus from the Coaches Invitational. We are already planning for next year and will return with the same elite standards as previous years. We will, however, be hosting a meet at Pope High School the week prior, March 9th , which will contest many of the same events normally featured at the Coaches Invitational including a 4X1600, SMR, 1600, emerging elite 3200, hurdles, 60, 4X800 and all the field events. Our facilities at Pope are top notch with a 1-year old track, brand new athletics building and new pole-vault/high jump system. WE can insure the same quality meet management and Coaches hospitality while providing more of a team oriented meet. Coaches, There will be a schedule posted on the mile split calendar page soon if you are interested in a meet on March 9 and we look forward to returning in full force next year for the 19th Coaches Invitational. Thanks to everyone for their support and dedication to GEORGIA TF!!
