Not that this is a huge surprise, but new state record! 8:52.70 at FSU relays. Looks like he took the lead after 400m and just slowly dropped everybody until he closed in a 61. 4:30, 4:22. Wow, just wow.

That is a state record. Ron Clanton is a master coach. One of the best this state has ever seen.

Phillips actually started to reel him in a little in the backstretch and curve but Jacob pulled away down the homestretch. Great run and he looked very happy after.

@acarr6453 haha that race went almost exactly the way I described! I didn't see it live, I was just going by what I saw in the splits. I didn't say it wasn't close for the win, but 3rd place was 9:01. That's really not very close to 8:52. But whatever, semantics. Amazing race Jacob. You deserved that.

So it took 36 years for Tyler Anyan to break Ralph King's record. It took 8 years for Jacob McLeod to break Tyler Anyan's record. If the (accelerating) trend continues, someone should break Jacob's record in 2020.

I can't remember a sub nine run since Logan Poteet and Miles Yapp tied up at the Coaches Invite in 2015 maybe? That race was awesome under the lights of Atlanta on Ga Tech's track. I'm thinking it will be a while before Jacob's record gets broken, but they say records are made to be broken so maybe not.

I predict it’s broken in two weeks. Then it will last awhile

Christian Bowles goes 9:09 or something and no one even talked about it!

@CoachMayer 9:09 is smoking, but 9:05 is another zip code from there. 8:59 is another huge difference from 9:05; every second below 9:00 is extraordinary. Fast, faster, fastest, and Jacob!
