This will be the 4th Annual North Georgia Championship meet since its inception in 2016. 29 high schools and 19 middle schools will converge on Saturday at Lamar Murphy Park on the grassy, moderately challenging layout that has underwent a few small changes in the last couple of years. This season the finish line has been moved back 40-50 meters so that races can be started on time and not interfere with runners at the rear of a field. Below one can find the new meet schedule and both course maps. MileSplit GA will be onsite shooting race video this season.
Varsity Boys Individual- This could be a tight race upfront with 3 very strong runners going for the Overall win. Andrew Jones of North Hall was 4th at State in 2018 and began his season last weekend by winning the Kosh Classic. Caleb Hall from North Forsyth was runnerup at the Pickens Preview, Riley Thornton dnr last week, but was runnerup in 3A State last Fall. Griffin Stephens from Banks County was 2A State XC runnerup and in the 3200m down in Albany last May. A real darkhorse to look for may be Hart County's Samuel Garringer who won the Bulldog Early going 16:51
Varsity Boys Team- On paper North Hall is the team to beat, but the race is not ran on paper.. look for Jefferson and Hart County to run at full strength this weekend, 7A schools Roswell and North Gwinnett have the numbers to push the smaller schools though. Buford, Clarke Central and Greater Atlanta Christian look evenly matched.
Varsity Girls Individual- This could be more competitive than the boys race as it has some top individuals from NE Georgia on the start line at the bottom of the hill. Samantha Brodrick of Clarke Central is the defending 8-AAAAA champ, Madison Watts of 7A Mountain View is one of the top runners in Gwinnett County, Brooke Browning of Hebron Christian was 3rd at Zach Wansley last weekend, Lena Cook of Clark Central was 2nd at region in 2018 and Makenna Culzer of North Gwinnett is fresh off a win at the Pickens Preview.
Varsity Girls Team- Johns Creek placed 2nd at Wesleyan Home Meet #1 behind Lambert. North Gwinnett will be seeking to defend their 2018 North Georgia title, Clarke Central won their region last season and hope to make a Podium push this Fall in 5A, 7A Roswell should be competitive along with a 3A Jefferson squad that has Podium aspirations in November.
