KENNESAW, Ga. – The Kennesaw State men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams are set to begin their 2011-12 season Saturday at the Fast Start Invitational hosted by Southern Illinois University at the SIU Recreational Center in Carbondale, Ill.

The meet will begin at 11:30 p.m. ET with the throwing events, while the track events are scheduled to start at 4 p.m. ET. This will be the only event for KSU in December, as the spring season will begin Jan. 12, at the Crossplex, hosted by UAB and Samford.

“We are excited to begin the season and see the results of the new techniques we have implemented,” head coach Andy Eggerth said. “This is the first meet of the season, but I expect to see some program records being broke this weekend.”

The men are looking to build off their success from last season as the Owls crossed the finish line of the 2011 season with an Atlantic Sun Conference Championship title. The Owls have dominated the A-Sun Track & Field winning the outdoor conference three of the last four years (2008-2010-2011), as well as have been crowned Indoor Conference Champions in 2008 and 2010.

In only his first year, Head Coach and Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Operation, Eggerth was named the Atlantic Sun Outdoor Men’s Coach of the Year, as chosen by other coaches from the conference. Under his leadership, 23 athletes were named to the All-Conference team for finishing in the top three of their event at conference and four individuals advanced to NCAA Postseason action.

The KSU women’s Track & Field program is on the cusp of becoming a perennial powerhouse of the A-Sun Conference as well after posting runner-up finishes in both the indoor and outdoor seasons in 2009 and 2010. Having sent individuals to the NCAA National Championship in each of the last two seasons, the team is eager to take the next step of winning conference.

This year is much anticipated for the KSU program with the implementation of a new state-of-the-art facility and the addition of assistant coaches Ryan Wagner and Agne Eggerth, as both bring a highly touted pedigree to KSU athletics.
