Women's Cross Country Place Ninth at A-Sun Championship

Winslow leads Owls in season finale

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Kennesaw State women’s cross country team finished ninth at the 2011 Atlantic Sun Cross Country Championship at the Vaughn’s Gap Course as the Owls ran a total time of 1:37:54.60 and an average 5k time of 19:34.92.

“This is a very young team we had running today,” head coach Stan Sims said. “We are full of freshmen and sophomores so we are only going to get better in the future.”

The Owls were led by freshmen Vicky Winslow who posted a time of 18:59.70 to finish 29th.  Sophomore Jessica Postlewite and freshman Lauren Scott were next to cross the finish line as Postlewite placed 42nd with a time of 19:29.50 while Scott finished 44th at 19:31.20.

Sophomore Heather Morris placed 48th in her return to the lineup as she posted a time of 19:45.50. Freshman Sydney Williams rounded out the scoring for the Black and Gold as she finished 51st, running a time of 20:08.70.

Freshmen Trice Sweet, Amy Rice and Ashley Wallace concluded the runners for Kennesaw as Sweet placed 63rd (21:03.30), Rice placed 67th (21:31.80) and Wallace finished 71st (22:05.10).

Lipscomb captured the team title with 53 points while runner-up North Florida (69) and Belmont (81) placed third. For the third consecutive year, a program earned its first A-Sun title with Lipscomb joining UNF (2010) and Jacksonville (2009).
