Hamid Finishes Third as Owls Take Seventh

Cross Country has stong performance leading into A-Sun Championship

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Nabil Hamid finished just 13 seconds behind the leader in third place with a time of 25:02.14 at the Crimson Classic as the junior led the Owls to a seventh place finish out of 21 teams at the Harry Pritchett Running Park

The squad totaled an 8k team time of 2:09:49.40 as the Black and Gold placed two runners in the top-15 with Hamid and senior Jaakko Nieminen finishing 15th with a time of 25:32.96.

A trio of Owls finished with a 26 minute mark as Junior Ryan Burruss placed 44th with a time of 26:16.25, while senior teammate Steven Murray ran a time of 26:26.02 to place 48th and Josh Jenkins finished 55th after posting a 26:32.03.

Sophomore Cole Jackob placed 85th after running the 8,000-meter race in 27:29.15, while freshman Brett Carter ran a time of 28:04.28 to place 104th. Freshman Parker Whitlock and sophomore Zachary Tupper rounded out the runners for the Owls as Whitlock placed 121st with a time of 29:01.33 and Tupper finished 132nd turning in a time of 29:48.95.

The teams seventh place finish bested 14 teams as the Owls came in behind first place Georgia Tech (2:07:54.98), second place Auburn (2:09:03.05), third place Mississippi State (2:09.05.74), fourth place Stephen F. Austin (2:09:22.70), fifth place and host school Alabama (2:09:09.98) and sixth place Georgia (2:09:56:87).

The team will have two weeks before traveling to Nashville, Tenn., for the Atlantic Sun Championship on Oct. 29. The Kennesaw State Athletic Department is offering fans an opportunity to travel with the team to support their pursuit of a third consecutive A-Sun championship title.
