LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Junior Nabil Hamid defeated a large portion in a talented field in the men’s gold race of the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday afternoon at Tom Sawyer Park, as the native of Ethiopia finished 27th out of 240, leading the Owls to a 19th place finish with a total team time of 2:07:38.10.

In what has been the largest and toughest field the Black and Gold have competed in thus far in 2011, the Owls return as the top-performing team from the Atlantic Sun as Belmont finished 21st and Mercer placed 27th.

Hamid’s 8,000-meter time of 24:37.71 bested all Kennesaw State runners as the junior has led the Owls in three consecutive meets. Senior Jaako Nieminen was the next to cross the finish line for the team, placing 65th with a time of 25:09.96, while junior Ryan Burruss crossed just after in 70th place running a time of 25:14.24.

Freshman Josh Jenkins finished with a time of 26:03.07 to place 149th, while senior Steve Murray crossed the finish line at 26:33.12 to place 186th and sophomore Zach Tupper finished 188th with a time of 26:35.54 to round out the scoring for the Owls.

Sophomore Cole Jackob placed 205th with a time of 26:59.61 and freshman Parker Whitlock was the last of the squad to finish as he turned in a time of 28:21.37 to place 236th.

"The men ran a solid race and are coming together," Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Operations Andy Eggerth said. "All our returners ran a faster time here this year, so we are better and even faster. This is a strong team and the fastest racing is still to come."

The Owls will have one more tune-up race in two weeks before competing in the A-Sun Championship Oct. 29. The team will travel to Tuscaloosa, Oct. 15, to compete in the Crimson Classic, an event hosted by the University of Alabama.
