Well, it's July. Which means it's time to start thinking about cross country season again. Summer mileage is well underway at this point, camps are happening all over the country, aspiring top athletes are probably hitting the double days hard, and even our athletes who went to track nationals are probably starting to get going on preparing for the XC season.
So let's take a look at the top 10 retuning teams on each classification for this upcoming season. These rankings are based on the upcoming GHSA classifications for the next two school years. MileSplit Georgia still has last year's classes too if you would like to make comparisons for yourself, and the new regions will be updated on the website before the season gets going.
Keep in mind this will be rankings based solely on the PR of each runner who ran last fall. There are countless things we can't completely account for, but fortunately anybody can go in and play around with these rankings can come up with a set of their own. So if you want to go deeper than 10 teams or see the rankings in a different way, you can do the following:
- You can look at each team ranking based only on PR from last year and their returners.
- Or you can use them to create a set of team rankings for cross country using track 3200m times or using track 1600m times. (you can also actually change the event code in the URL of either of those links to account for any track event you want, actually, but most other events probably won't help project XC team success)
- You can also use the virtual meets feature and add your own teams based on your personal projections of who will make the state meet, or maybe based on who made it last year.
- Or you could use the virtual meets feature to select performances based on a previous meet as well, like for example the state meet. Or you could pick just a few different meets to ignore some of the fast courses and see how teams stack up if you only count hard courses.
So take this down time from school to play around and figure out the best set of rankings you can think of! If you're really energetic you can do all of the above and make a composite of each to see how it works out!
