TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-
Amara Jones set a new Savannah State record as she won the women's 200m race at the Florida State Twilight held at Mike Long Track. The track meet took place May 6 and 7.
Jones broke her own record she set last year with a time of 23.67.
The SSU women's 4x400m "A" relay team (
Aleah Hordges, Jazy Seay-Blane,
Amber Hughes and Jones) also won first place with a time of 3:46.57. The SSU "B" squad (Bridgette Brown, Dominique Givance,
Kendra Carter and
Demery Craig) was 4th in the same race with a time of 3:33.31
Jones was 3rd in the 400m with a time of 53.83 and
Sharonda Redfield was 3rd in the triple jump with a leap of 11.99m.
Redfield was 4th in the long jump with a leap of 5.53m and Hordges set a personal record in the 400m with a run of 56.13.
Hughes placed 5th in the triple jump with a jump of 11.69m, Carter was 7th in the long jump and 100m with a jump of 5.11m and a time of 12.60. Craig placed 10th in the 100m with a run of 12.69.
Ruben Isreal-McBee led the SSU men with a 6th place finish in the 5000m run with a time of 15:39.71.
In the 400m hurdles,
Felton Chinn was 7th with a time of 54.65 and
Darnell Brown had a personal best run of 54.70 for a 8th place finish.
Darrius Baker was 8th in the 200m with a time of 22.06 and Chaz Price finished 8th in the 400m race with a run of 49.31.
