MACON, Ga.- Setting the school record for the 1,500 meters for the second time this season, senior Piotr Witczak was named Atlantic Sun Track Athlete of the Week, the conference announced on Wednesday. Earning his second career outdoor track award, Witczak also received one earlier this year for his accomplishments in cross country.
Breaking the school record in the 1,500 for the second time this year, Witczak best his own mark on Saturday at the Auburn Tiger Track Classic. His time of 3:50.51 which broke his previous record set at the Georgia Intercollegiate Invitational by three seconds. His time currently puts him at second in the A-Sun and 59th nationally.
"While I didn't expect this recognition, it is still a great honor for me," Witczak said. "The athlete of the week award is just an addition to all of the hard work I do every day during practices. I have worked very hard for the last several weeks and now I want to just compete the best that I can."
