Day One Results

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. - Finishing up day one of competition at the Atlantic Sun Indoor Championship, the Kennesaw State men’s track and field team sits in fifth with only a few points separating them from co-leaders ETSU and North Florida. Campbell and USC Upstate are at three and four, respectively only two points ahead of the Owls.

“Overall we had a very strong performance today,” head track and field coach Andy Eggerth said. “We had a lot of athletes step up across the board. Athletes are performing well and we are really looking forward to tomorrow and the finals in all of the running events.”

Already having a record breaking season, junior Anjoun Armaly didn’t disappoint in his first A-Sun Indoor Championship, breaking the school record for the long jump. His distance of seven meters shattered the previous mark set by Jake Bridges by over five tenths of a meter or over a foot. This season alone Armaly has broken the triple jump record twice, setting in his first indoor meet ever back in January.

Beginning the day with the heptathlon, three Owls are competing in the two day, seven event contest. Brian Graham, Adam Reed and Damarcus Henley currently sit in sixth, seventh and eighth heading into the final events tomorrow.

The heptathlon wasn’t the only event for Reed, who also competed in the pole vault. Clearing a height of 4.60 meters, Reed secured himself a second place finish. After a long day of competition, Coach Eggerth was pleased with Reed’s performance and looks forward to the heptathlon finals Saturday.

“We have three guys who are ready to score in the heptathlon tomorrow,” Eggerth said. Adam had a breakout day in the heptathlon and came back to do a great job in the pole vault. We are in a strong position to score points tomorrow and get back in the thick of it.”

Jaakko Nieminen set a new personal record in the 3,000 meters, crossing the line in 8:30.70. His time was good enough for fourth place. Nieminen gets another chance for gold on Saturday in the mile and 5,000 meter competitions.

The men begin the final day of competition with the final heptathlon events and weight throw. The men’s 4x4 relay concludes the day at 4:00 pm.
