JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.- Competing in their final meet before the conference championship, the Kennesaw State women’s track and field team had a successful first day at the Niswonger Invitational, Friday. Held at the same site as the conference championship, three ladies were able to set new personal records to add to the astounding number already set this season.

Getting to see their fellow Atlantic Sun Confernence rivals in host ETSU, Campbell, Lipscomb and USC Upstate, the squad got off to a tough start in the morning but according to head track and field coach Andy Eggerth, the team only got better as the day progressed.

“We started off the day subpar,” Eggerth said. “We weren’t performing as well as we should have been. As the day went on though, we found our groove and got better. Some of the earlier performers did better in their later events so it was an overall good finish to the day. It was interesting to see how the athletes reacted to the earlier start of the day too.”

Just a week after setting her personal record in the 200 meters, Victoria Jackson broke the short lived best, crossing the line in 25.36. Teammate Cynthia Davis also set a new personal record in the 200, finishing in 25.25.

Holding preliminary events today with finals tomorrow, Naomi Mack set a personal best in the 60 hurdles prelim. Her time of 9.20 was good enough for ninth place today and secures her a qualifying spot for finals on Saturday.

Finishing sixth and seventh in the shot put and weight throw, respectively, Chiquita Hawthorne threw the shot for a top distance of 12.61 meters and the weight 15.87.
