I'll be on a scholarship. I plan to major in health science. I'm still narrowing down my options.
What's your most memorable race or race you're most proud of?
I'd say when I broke the school record that lasted for over a decade. It showed me I had a lot of potential in this sport, and it helped shape how I'm doing today.
What has been your biggest challenge in high school or hardest obstacle to overcome?
Last year I placed 1st in the region and 4th in the state for the 300H. During the region, I clipped a hurdle and fell. I was in first place and expected to place at state, so that was tough. I felt like I let my team, my coach, and myself down. But it made me stronger. I bounced back that summer and went to the Junior Olympics and placed All American in the 400H.
What is your typical warm-up routine and/or weight room routine like?
I start with a lap around the track, then get into rolling and foam work. After that I do my dynamic warm-up - hips, stretches, drills, accelerations. If I'm hurdling, I'll do hurdle drills after that and then cool down.
For weights, we have track lifting at Grayson. Mondays we squat, Tuesdays bench, Wednesdays stretch, Thursdays power clean, Fridays rest. That's during the off-season. During the season, everything gets adjusted.
What do you think is the biggest part of training that has helped you achieve success?
Pushing myself to my limits during training and not jogging through reps. That's where it matters.
What is your all-time favorite workout?
15-minute jog, stretch, another 15-minute jog, stretch, then go home.
What is your least favorite or hardest workout?
4x broken 400 over hurdles.
Who do you have to thank for your success?
Honestly, a lot of people - my mom, Coach Williams, my stepdad, my family, my teammates, and all the coaches I've had at Grayson.
Who do you look up to the most in your event?
I don't really look up to anyone. I just stay focused on my own lane.
What gets you pumped up for a training session or race?
Nothing specific. I just run. I came out here to run, so I'm going to do that and have fun doing it.
What is your favorite food and/or movie and/or TV show and/or song?
Food - I love Chick-fil-A.
What will you miss the most about high school?
The people, the meets, and the friendships. And not being taken as serious as it will be in college.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Don't ever give up. Don't let anyone tell you you didn't do anything. And always hold your pride.
